Remote of in-house project manager? (6 posts)

  • Hi everyone,

would you ever consider hiring a remote project manager to manage your projects? Do you know someone, who have tried it? I’m preparing blog posts with my experience working as a remote project manager, pros and cons and I’d love to hear some feedback from the other side as well. I want to help small businesses decide whether it’s better to hire a full-time project manager in-house, or a freelance project manager working remotely.

    Thanks for your help :)

Anyone who’s read The Earth is Flat or 4 Hour Work Week knows the benefits of outsourcing!

However, I’m not sure that I personally would lead with project management. I’d prefer to have my project manager in house and outsource other work, such as design, development and programming.

That being said, many small business owners are leaning on independent contractors to help their companies grow, so I’m sure there are enough out there to keep you busy.

I would focus your content on the pain points you can help people with: reduced project cost, less stress, on time delivery of projects, bigger margins, etc.

Work how a project manager can help them with all this w/o adding additional employee costs such as ongoing salary, health benefits, etc.

    Good luck!

  • no i wouldnt..

.. how  would they know the  feel of the place….  how  would  they  get the right pictures, the right words,  the  big idea  ..

my  big projects   take  lots of pictures,  and   real authentic   reflections of our business….i would want someone who had been in the store and   had seen the customers and   had  some real insight into our  business….

. if i had to  transmit all that    over the   internet that would be half the work and   it still wouldnt   be  authentic  enough for me…..

i would need a LOCAL   freelancer  WHO  LIKED  OUR  STUFF……..a nd  i wouldnt mind paying….  i wouldnt pay  3  times my hourly  wage tho…. and i make a good living.

i might outsource  certain   parts if our  tekk team  couldnt handle  them…..

  • @annfurnivall @rich-brooks Thanks for your insights, really appreciate it

  • @rich-brooks I’ve got an idea, what if I managed a project for you to show you that it does work well? :)

Thanks, but I’ve got two kick-ass project managers in house…one of whom is my wife!
