Referals to an service/app to manage passwords? (11 posts)

  • Hello everyone,

I’ve gotten sooo many passwords that they are just getting out of hand! I’m thinking of using a service like Password Safe and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a service like this and how they worked out.

  • KeePass LOVE it!

  • I am using LastPass, it makes web browsing easier and more secure. It is free to use on all your computers and it works everywhere on all platforms, Mac, Windows or Linux.

  • I use Roboform – it works on all platforms, desktop or mobile. I believe it’s more secure then LastPass – see  http://news.cnet.com/8301-1009_3-20061445-83.html for more information and it has been around a lot longer.

  • @amyhallbiz I probably need a password manager; however, I am still leery of placing everything in the cloud for now…

  • @kc_kreative this is one of the reasons I like KeePass so much.  It’s a database on your computer. You can Create a parent and child folder system so you can easily manage your own passwords as well as clients.  They’ve even got a version that you don’t have to “install” on your computer. Just open it up from the location you downloaded it to. You can create and save the database there.

  • @juleswebb Oooooo…..I like that idea and will have to check it out. Thanks!

  • @juleswebb  Thanks for the tip on KeePass.  I have the same problem with so many passwords.  This looks great!

  • @claire-dalisay

Careful with LastPass. Didn’t they hacked this year?

KeePass looks good as it is appears to be locally stored and encrypted, but then if you lose that machine or master password…

Any of you guys use a general passwords and then append “@website” to it? Seems to work for a lot of people.

  • @robpeck

RE: lose that machine – you can use dropbox to do an automated offsite backup.

RE: master password, there’s no way around that one, but it’s hard to imagine that you couldn’t come up with one password that you could remember, or store in a safe place ;)

RE: Any of you guys use a general passwords and then append “@website” to it?
    Never

  • @robpeck, thanks for the info.. have a nice day
