Project Management Systems (15 posts)

  • Can anyone recommend a good online project management system for keeping on top of clients projects. Each client has different tasks that need completing with the tasks ranging from daily requirements to monthly requirements.  I am looking for something that can record these tasks so that I can ensure everything is getting done when it should within one system to also assist with time management.Would love to hear what others are using and if you have been happy with it…Many thanks.

  • @jayneday peachtree used to be the business standard but that was back in 88 -92 when I worked as project manager at Johnstown Custom Woodworks and later, Book Construction.

I use the internet as my bookkeeping and project management system.

  • TeamworkPM works brilliant for projects as it allows you to create multiple Projects, Timelines, Tasks, allows multiple employees to log in and collaborate together, etc. Basically everything you need in PM. You get to see what is required, when it should be done and who is or isn’t doing the task. We ave been using this for a year now and find it works seamlessly with all our multiple tasks, event planning and marketing needs.

  • I am a complete Bascamp Fan, but am always open to new suggestions.

  • @jayneday

Like @beckyflansburg we also use Basecamp. Simple and affordable.

  • @rich-brooks and @beckyflansburg thank you.  Basecamp seems to be the best that I have trialled so far too.  Glad to hear you are both happy with it.

  • @jayneday I’m using Vtiger which is an open source, self hosted CRM/PM solution. It’s challenging to set up to begin with, but once it’s set up properly, it’s wonderful.

  • Thanks @amyhallbiz.  I hadn’t heard of Vtiger – I will take a look

  • @jayneday

Basecamp would serve the purpose but it really depends on what activity you are offering. different applications for different industries

  • I run a couple of web design / online marketing companies and we’ve been using Basecamp for years. For our purposes, it works very well – we like the abillity to create custom “to-do” lists based on the type of project, allow clients access to the logs (if we want) and be able to track everybody’s time.

    I recommend it.

  • I use Teamlab.

Basecamp is enticing, but as a freelance I need to keep my costs low and I can use Teamlab for free.

  • I looked at basecamp and to be honest can’t remember why I decided NOT to go with it.. probably $$

We currently use 5pm (http://www.5pmweb.com/) – which is Project management based on task management. quite simplistic to work with so everybody understands it.

  • Thanks @ivankamenken.  Another one for me to look at.  I have been using Basecamp for a week and am liking it but will certainly take a look at 5pm.

  • I like MS Project but was recently asked to only use Excel – this way anyone could view the files (yes, there is a viewer for MS Project). So I swapped to Excel, and I hate it.

  • We use Goshido at my place of work.
