Program to get all Meta Keywords from a site? (9 posts)

  • Is there a  program I can use that will search my site of <50 pages and will get all the keywords that I have set up in my meta keywords tags so I can record and track them?

  • @gregorymacke,

Why are you concerned about the meta keywords tag? From an SEO perspective, it’s completely and utterly useless.

  • I agree with Lukas  @lukaspleva @gregorymacke.  Google doesn’t really use the MetaTag.  But if you’d like to see your top keywords and where you rank with your competitors try this:

  • @gregorymacke  Sounds like you’re in a bit of a jam. Keywords should be researched to make sure they draw the clientele and demographic you want. Your webmaster or webdesigner should have given you a list of keywords that are included in the database on your site when the site was built.

  • @gregorymacke

Agree with everyone here: the meta-keywords on your site are for all intents and purposes without value.

Well, except to your competition who can now more easily discover which keywords you’re targeting!

Maybe instead you could let us know what your goals are? If they are to track important keywords–whether they appear in your meta-tags or not–there are tools out there that can help.

  • Google uses meta tags and so do the other spiders. The easiest and quickest way to see your meta statements is to right click on your page and choose view source from the pop-up that appears. Your tags will appear near the top of the html page.

  • @gregorymacke did you get an answer to your question?
I use the free version of screamingfrog to scrape all the SEO data that I want to inventory from a website.
    Yes, it includes meta keywords.

  • Hello.

Meta tags are not used for “indexing” (at the big G) but are read.  If you want to know what ones are used on your own pages you can do as @krmcgee stated.

IF your website was built by someone else (a developer/designer) you should be able to look at the title of the page and know what the main keyword or key-phrase is that is being used for that page. Of course, your developer would have to know their beans to realize this very simple fact.

For tracking, there are about a gazillion options.
