  • Hi,

If anyone has any PPC questions feel free to ask them here. I sit with 30+ analysts so ask away.

    Hi Rob,
I have a couple of questions: If you get Google Slapped on the PPC side of things so that your ads no longer show on the Sponsored Ads side of Google, does this also kill/blacklist your organic Google results for that same domain?
Or are PPC and organic results completely exclusive of each other in Google’s algorithmic manipulations?
Have you had experience with this?

  • @ptwylie

Thanks for writing. A few different experiences come to mind, all are anecdotal, so take as evidence, but not as fact.

    • We had a few advertisers get their PPC accounts suspended because they didn’t have VIPPS certification and were sponsoring prescription related keywords. They did not notice any negative consequences on search (or map) results because of it.
    • In my experience PPC slaps and bans are account wide on the paid side, but dont touch the organic side. Meaning if you are a retailer sponsoring “free viagra” and “towels” your Quality Score will go to 1/10 for both terms, even though “towels” is ok. I am pretty sure this happens even if they are on separate domains.
I don’t believe QS and PageRank are related. As an example there are organic results for bombs, drugs, guns, etc… that are banned from paid. Search and Ads are managed by different teams. With that, said something that is a bad idea on one is probably a bad idea on the other.
    Best,

  • @robpeck Thanks Rob for your feedback on my queries! With all the changes that are going on with Google it will be interesting where display ads are going to go.

  • @ptwylie
We love display lately. I gave up on it about 4 years ago, but the last year or so it’s really gotten its act together.

Almost all of our campaigns including a modest retargeting budget set aside to try and capture some of the “almost” buyers.
