Thanks for writing. A few different experiences come to mind, all are anecdotal, so take as evidence, but not as fact.
- We had a few advertisers get their PPC accounts suspended because they didn’t have VIPPS certification and were sponsoring prescription related keywords. They did not notice any negative consequences on search (or map) results because of it.
- In my experience PPC slaps and bans are account wide on the paid side, but dont touch the organic side. Meaning if you are a retailer sponsoring “free viagra” and “towels” your Quality Score will go to 1/10 for both terms, even though “towels” is ok. I am pretty sure this happens even if they are on separate domains.
I don’t believe QS and PageRank are related. As an example there are organic results for bombs, drugs, guns, etc… that are banned from paid. Search and Ads are managed by different teams. With that, said something that is a bad idea on one is probably a bad idea on the other.
