Pinterest Photo Sharing Site (23 posts)

  • Greetings, all.  I was wondering if anyone is using the Pinterest Photo Sharing site.  I set up an account and have been pinning pics for the last couple of weeks.  I have seen a growth in website visits since doing this.  I have set up several “boards” (picture groupings) one being “New Arrivals at Nancy’s Fabrics”.  I was checking to see if anyone else has been using this and what your take on this might be.  Peace, Robert.

  • Hi Robert, I am on Pinterest under my other business name (mumatopia). Pinterest is a my social haven. It’s what I do to relax and unwind on my ipad before knocking off for the night. However, I am starting to notice an increased amount of blatent advertising showing up and I think that is a direct result of the publicity Pinterest has had of late and some recent research by ComScore saying that Pinterest is going to be one of the top 10 social media platforms in 2012. The main thing to remember is to pin others’ content more than your own. I have boards set up for my businesses but I mostly pin other people’s stuff and use it for inspiration for both work and non work interests. If people start getting too spammy, then I can guarantee that Pinterest will lose its appeal. Have fun with Pinterest and feel free to follow me. @robertbaker

  • @robertbakerMany of my clients are in the paper crafting business and they love using Pinterest to pin their artwork (handmade cards, scrapbook pages, 3D projects), and I set one up as well for my paper crafting things. It’s fun and does help in people finding you. Visuals are a great tool. So I think Pinterest is a nice visual representation of your “work” :DAnd as Cas mentioned, I have boards of “things that I like” where I pin a bunch of photos of other people’s work and photos. Be sure to do that as well :D @casmccullough |

  • I love pinterest but still havn’t done any pinning.  Talk about a time vampire. Being a florist, i’ve had several brides use it and my Daughter just got engaged at Christmas and is already going crazy finding things she loves.

  • Robert, I love Pinterest!  I work with a lot of photographers and they are jumping on this bandwagon in a big way.  Here is a blog post I wrote which gives some tips for using Pinterest.

  • Greetings.  Thank you all for your input.  I have only been using Pnterest for a couple weeks but I have made up several boards where I pin others works.  Like said do use one board to show case the new fabrics I get in.  But pinning others is the major part of my pinterest.  @casmccullough   @blogsbyheather   @jeniferswanson  @georgiamccabe

  • @georgiamccabe Thanks for sharing the link to your post. Very informative and great suggestions!

  • @debbie hemley you are welcome.  Have you tried Pinterest?  If so how do you use it?

  • Finally, someone clears up Pinterest for me

  • Georgia McCabe Thank you for the helpful article! I’ve just started to use Pinterest for myself (for fun) and for an artist client but have more to learn about the site.

An article I found useful as well is from @JohnJantsch about How and Why To Use Pinterest.

If you post your Pinterest page I’d like to follow it. This is my Pinterest page if you’d like to follow back.

  • Greetings.  My pinterest is NancysFabrics

  • I’m happy to find this discussion as I’ve been on Pinterest for a few weeks and am wondering how different businesses are using it. Right now it’s recreation for me.

@Nancy: I like your boards, this seems like a good fit for your business. My business is primarily libraries and information (I’m an independent librarian). It may prove to be a good tool for visually presenting information and showcasing books and resources.

@Cas: Definitely agree. What is your business and Pinterest username? It has the potential to be loaded with spam and ads for individual business products. I sell books and could easily fill a board with books with links back to my business, but that doesn’t seem to be the purpose of the site.

How are other less visual (e.g. non-photographers, wedding coordinators, graphic designers, etc.) businesses use it?

  • @africahands  Yes, only been doing it for a few weeks but it does help to drive traffic to my website.  I really like pinterest so far.  It really sends targeted customers to my website without much work from me, this I like.

  • @africahands My pinterest name is mumatopia.

  • I’m really starting to like Pinterest. Yesterday I posted some weight loss recipes for my client. Couldn’t believe it when I went into her analytics later that night – Pinterest had jumped to the #1 spot for referrals! She got just under 100 visits from Pinterest in a day.

Great for those who are looking to go national – not so easy to target “locally”.

  • Thanks Cas and Robert.

Is anyone using any sort of analytics program to track hits coming from Pinterest?

  • @africahands I don’t have anything concrete in numbers yet but since joining pinterest I have seen a growth in visitiors and newsletter signups.  Sells haven’t seen but joined pinterest during the holidays, so will wait on the verdict on sells.
Now I would like to ask, I am starting to get lots of repins.  Should I responds to each repin or only to the ones that leave comments?  Some of the repins are pics of latest fabrics avaialble on Nancy’s Fabrics but most are quilt or quilt block pictures.

  • Here’s a good article on how to use Pinterest.  Hope this helps you.

  • @karenpelletier  Thank you for the link.  Helpful article.  Peace, robert.

  • I’ve been using Pinterest for a week or so now and I think it is wonderful. I think this is a great way to share interesting infographics and visual information. I also find it kind of nice to to be able to see the types of things that the people I follow are interested in (beyond social media). It makes me feel more connected to them – they are real people with real and interesting hobbies or interests. I have just started on Pinterest, but I do hope that people feel a little more connected to me by following my Pinterest boards.

You can check out my boards here.

  • @karenpelletier Thanks Karen for the link, interesting article.

I can’t say enough about Pinterest.  I spend 20-30 minutes each morning pinning and I am really starting to see a growth in my website visits and sells.  If your busy is visual like mine(quilting) I really feel you are missing the boat if not on Pinterest.  Actually its quite enjoyable and relaxing.  Nice to do something that doesn’t feel like marketing.  :)  Peace, Robert.

  • I have been hearing lots these days about Pinterest, on a daily basis, yet still can’t quite figure it out. I have read the articles suggested in this thread, and went to the site, but it remains a mystery to me. I mean, I get it. But I am not too sure I would want to get involved on this network.

Having said that, I have read about the demographics of users, so I can totally see why businesses and entrepreneurs ought to look into it seriously. Many, many moms using this site (I believe I saw a stat that said 72% were female users), so as we all know women are the ones who decide in the houselhold ;-) then it becomes quite clear this site is poised for some serious growth.

I shall give it another try and see how I can get more involved in this site. Sigh! ;-)

  • @karenpelletier great article with the most information I have read yet about pinterest. Thanks for the link.
