pinterest …2 things (19 posts)

  • 1.pinreach seems to have died

2…just  read they are cracking down on  spam…and   like facebook   they arent easily available or  explaining  very well… some  reports of   those capchtas…sp???   and blocked pins….the complainer had   many  posts and  duplicate posts and  tons of her own   comments in the comments….  now  she can rarely post even w hen entering the  right  characters  in  the  cap. box….

irts hard to follow the rules when they are  veiled and murky,,,,, i dont want to   do anything wrong on pinterest…i have   lots of   followers…and i do  put my   website on  MY pictures…

  • HI  @annfurnivall — I’m not sure what you are asking about.

Where did you read this?  Do you have a link?

    Eileen

  • i just  read it..guess i was reporting more than asking….   ….  http://llsocial.com/2012/04/pinterest-preventing-users-pinning/

i  dont often do links..but i tried…. hope its there…..   it was a   heavy users  report on  her problems  …….

  • HI @annfurnivall

From what is reported – she was spamming pinterest.  You see, you cannot (on any reputable SM platform) copy and paste the same remarks over and over and in this case the same images – it is not allowed, no matter what the comment or image pertains to.  That IS spamming.  Trying to communicate to thousands of users the same message over and over is SPAM.

I’ve not had any issues with Pinterest but then again, I don’t SPAM.

    Eileen

  • @supereb thats  what i thought  too.

.pinterest ils bringing me   mone y  but i dont do what  she was  doing…its  hard w hen they dont outline the   boundaries….

. in  the comments  there was   a  person who didnt  do that at all and stilll got the  captcha and problems……

    @supereb

  • HI  @annfurnivall

I guess I should ‘knock on wood’ that I’ve not had any problems there.  But Pinterest is a fun activity for me.  I don’t try to ‘game’ any of the popular platforms.  So, I usually don’t have problems.

FB it the only place where I’ve had them block me from asking people to be my friend (for a week) and since I know I did not do anything wrong it really burns my chaps to have them do that on the say so of ONE person who DID know me, but reported my request as SPAM.  Aargh. :O

  • Pinreach is up for sale I think — but PinPuff is still around.  (I don’t know if they used the same “pinfluence” algorithm.)  Otherwise the article is old by now.

Seems to me that the anti-spam measures are effective, at least in reducing the amount of spam.  I know that serious spammers & malicious sites are being blocked very quickly.  I noticed a potentially malicious site (bestrecipes.com) that was pinning recipe images (a few weeks ago), but instead of taking you to the recipe, the link took you to the site’s main page where they told users to download and install an .exe (!!!!) in order to search for the recipe you clicked on!! OMG!  Spamming for newbies I guess.  I reported this to Pinterest and they blocked access to the site very quickly, in a couple of hours if I recall corectly. (A few days later I noticed that bestrecipes.com site was gone altogether.) Pinterest acted very quickly once the problem was reported, which is really the best they can do as obviously they can’t inspect the link of every pin.  (Possibly the new business accounts will have some pre-certification). Got to keep your guard up, antivirus paid up etc. and report problems ASAP !!

  •   @csorengg how  do you  know  about pinterest?

any  safe practice advice?  i have lots of  boards and  put my  website on  under  1/10 of my posts….just on all pictures of  things we make….i have   about  2000 followers…..  i started as aperson not a business…. i have prices on  a teeny  amount  of posts…and   no  response…i dont care about that….lots of my  customers  follow my  boards…i have a few  things  on more than one  board….

    anything i  should  beware of?

pinpuff seems not to work…tonight anyway

  • I’ve been pinning frequently for several months.  I think Pinterest expects you to have a link on each pin, unless it’s something you uploaded (even then, there is usually a link).  Just watch out for dodgy recipe websites :)  I haven’t investigated the biz accounts, am about to post some of my own stuff (finally) but as I’m not a ‘brand’ I think I’ll stick with a personal account.

Pinpuff was working last week — took a long time to calculate though.  Wish they would let us have stats on all our boards, not just the 1st 20.

  • Pinterest is a popular social tool now. I have pin lots of things: such as iPhone 5 cases from Goodscool. I like them very much.

  • @csorengg maybe i didnt wait long  enough on pinpuff…not sure…

.i sure liked   pinreach and hope it gets  revived….. im so interested in pinterest, and hear about it   almost everyday in the store from my  customers,,,,they really use it in  my  world…

  • @csorengg @liuy @annfurnivall

    Hello Folks.

PinPuff is good and I don’t mind that it is only the top 20 as that tells me where the most traffic is coming from.  I would like to see Pinreach working again too though.

Pinterest really helps stores like yours Ann – I have been trying to do more with images for several blogs so that may help in my arena also.

    Eileen :D

  • I have too many boards :(  I pin largely for jewelry & related arts, and also for conservation causes (Save the Oceans! etc.).  So the ability to get a simple report of followers, likes & repins for every board would help me toss out any boards that people don’t visit, and also to find the most important/interesting boards where I should focus more effort.  (I did ask Pinterest to let us generate a simple report of these stats, but they are pretty busy doing other things.  Maybe now that the business accounts are up & running we’ll get that capability.)

  • @csorengg thanks  for telling me about pinpuff…..  i waited and  got my  report…it was 71.. pretty   good….but   so what? or maybe everyone  gets that high….

i wasnt  sure what their  goal was…anyway i joined up.

  • I think the top of the scale is 100.  (Last spring, pinreach or pinerly showed some top pinners with scores around 85 or a bit higher.)  I checked my score several times and watched it creep up from around 12 to 85 at last check.  So it is a real “score” but we don’t know what the algorithm is….

  • Ok,so there’s Pinpuff, Pinreach,and pinerly…

What do they do and are there any more like them? Any free ones?

Yep, I’m always a freebie seeker first, lol.

  • @atlantarobin

the parts i use are free….im  not too sure what  the numbers  mean in relation to all users….it took   me a long time to  get  …pinreach  was a lot  clearer  about that….getting to  49  was  hard  and   good…they told  you what percent  was in that  group…

….and on pinpuff we are  71..but  little info past that….  .so???

are  you on pinterest?  love to see…

  • All are free for now AFAIK…
