Just went to login into my PayPal account and saw on their front page that they are getting ready to enter into the smartphone card readers. Their new reader is called PayPal here. It will be interesting to see how their release affects the success of Square and GoPayment. Do you think you will make the switch to the PayPal card reader once its released?

As Treasurer of Basset Hound Rescue of Alabama and we have a PayPal Account. I will definetely look into a Paypal Card Reader. We have never been able to take credit cards at our Major Annual Fundraiser and with this we will be able to and look to expect higher sales. And the capabiility of scanning a check will save us time and effort as well. I am very excited about this positive impact for our nonprofit organization.

@trudy The capability to track and accept multiple forms of payments are definitely a big advantage. I have had my PayPal account for years and the PayPal name is known and trusted, so I think Square and GoPayment will have their work cut out for them to hold on to their first to market advantage.

Wish we’d had ANY of these services at the Star Wars Celebration 5 trade show we did 2 years ago. Here’s the lesson I learned the hard way. I got the bright idea to just have people pay our Paypal account at our booth – DISASTER. Paypal froze our account, because it was a red flag that everyone was paying from the same I.P. address, and we lost money because we had to go back after everyone (many from outside of the U.S.) to repay us once the account was unfrozen. It was a nightmare.

@heathercompton It also says it handles checks, so if this treats checks like debits and knows if the funds are available, that is HUGE for small businesses–no chasing down bad checks!

@denisedorman… Wow… Hopefully PayPal Here will help put that nightmare to rest and regain your trust in their company. I would be so frustrated with them if that would have happened to me.
@joanmuschampfagnani… I think that PayPal is definitely on the right track. Hoping there are not any major bugs when the reader and app is finally launched.
