Paying for Trending Topics? (4 posts)

Topic tags: #16TrillionFail
  • You’ve seen them…trending topics that wouldn’t be trending if a corporation (or Super PAC) didn’t pay for them…and now they’re available for small biz.

Would you ever pay for a trending topic? If so, what topic would you pay for? How would you use it to build your small biz?

(I thought of this b/c I noticed #16TrillionFail was trending…and paid for…which is an anti-Obama slogan, but most of the tweets–at least while I was looking–were pro-Obama, as you can’t control the message.)

Politics aside, it seems to be risky business for big business, but maybe we (small biz owners) could fly under the radar and do some good?

  • what exactly are you suggesting we do?

  • Well, I am less than totally happy with my internet/tv/phone company and I can imaging paying to attack them (yes, I can be petty). I can also think that people would ask friends to mass attack one #mark – just like the dems attacked back at the repubs

  • Paying for trending topics can be beneficial. I believe that it is most effective when it is part of a complete campaign strategy. Preferably, a campaign that includes various tactics, you have your influencers in-line to act as advocates and you are prepared to quickly handle potential setbacks.
