Now that we are PUBLIC (19 posts)

  • Hi everyone.

I’m sure you received Mike’s email informing us that the networking clubs are now public.

I’m curious what that means exactly. Will everything we post in the clubs be accessible to the search engines — and the world? Should we now “mind our language”?? Do some things remain “private”.

Just curious –. Any thoughts or info?

  • Interesting question I had not thought of.  I guess my question is when I have posted comments in the past to Mike’s public posts were they accessible to search engines.  I guess I personally do not even think of those things since so much is public. I just do not post anything I want to have remain private or not get  “crawled”and posted on Google.

  • Oh, and yes. We should always mind our language, online and offline. :)

  • Right your are, Trudy! :-)

  • @rachelagheyisi @trudy

Well, my observations from the time I joined were that my posts were searchable by Google and did, in fact, appear in the search engines. When they added tags to the Forum Topics, this increased the chances of ranking highly.

So yes, do be aware that what you say may stick around for years to come. But that’s a good thing, if you want it to be. If you don’t, then just self edit what you write and all will be okey, dokey, lol!

The take-away learning opportunity we have here, however, is that SME has truly created the new model for how to increase your blogs reach and search engine rankings by creating a venue where users will generate high-ranking pages for you. I think what they’ve done here is ingenious, comparable only to what Ken Evoy has always taught in his Five Pillars Program through his Site Build It / Site Sell It website training.

Kudos to SME for bringing us all here to their, and now our, non-stop e-learning extravaganze site!

  • Im not sure, and I hadn’t thought about it on this level… but I would assume its like Linkedin Answers – you don’t find those in the search engines… Also, the site is password protected, so usually that means no – but then again I can sometimes follow the links, see the threads, but need to sign in to respond or reply.

Either way, it doesn’t matter much to me though! As @trudy said, everything is so public anyway!

  • I totally agree with the fact that if our comments appear in search engines then we get extra exposure we did not have previously. So we all need to respond as the professionals that we are to continue to establish and add to our credibilty. Thanks Robin for bringing this up and informing us.. Kudos to you as well as SME.

  • @trudy

It seems with every new forum created, there’s something new to learn, something new to share. Always glad to help, if only a wee bit, but always know that there will be more to learn with every opened tab. This is soooo cool. Just love being here, Trudy.

  • @atlantarobin @trudy I agree with both of you.  There’s something to be said for the positive energy here — it can only lead to great things as we all continue to share it.

  • Hi @rachelagheyisi

    Wonderful question!

And @atlantarobin — thanks so much for really digging in to what we are doing here.  It’s my guess that you’ve discovered capabilities I am not even aware of yet. :)

So to answer the question, “What does it mean now that we are public.”

Here’s what I think it means:

    1. A lot more people will be joining the clubs. We’ll be phasing getting the word out to our 550,000 monthly readers.  More people, more discussion, more fun…

    2. The leaderboard is now live on all pages of Social Media Examiner, not just the clubs

    3. “Most” of the bugs have been worked out of the system

    4. Moderators are in place now to accommodate the expected increase in posts

I will give a little clue to those of you that like adventure…  What we are doing now is simply the beginning…

    Mike

  • @mike-stelzner – Somehow I knew you’d weigh in sooner than later! Thanks for the update. I’m sure I speak for most of us when I say that we already FEEL the adventure — next we will SEE (more clearly) as it unfolds. As you probably know, in a few short days, the book club (the SBBC) kicks off. The collective brain power here can only generate more interesting paths.

So, fearless leader, we are ready. Lead on!

  • Mind your Ps and Qs always! Great reminder, Trudy. And, yes, Mike, we are so excited that you have created “The Great Adventure” for your little campers. I hope that the information is public as I feel this has become a “Mikipedia” of social media. So much can be learned in all the threads. We have collected some great experts here. Hang on for the ride of your life down the river of information, campers! @rachelagheyisi @mike-stelzner @atlantarobin @trudy @melissaagnes

  • @deairby

All posts within the club forums are indeed public :)

  • @deairby excellent term to sme club dea. The club has really become mikepedia and will soon become Google of Social Media!

  • @mike-stelzner Your offering has generated an interesting collection of minds indeed Mike. It is my fondest wish to make the most of the resource and to contribute what ever bit of knowledge that I may be capable of.

  • thanks, I also like the term “Mikipedia,” (well, of course I do, I made it up!) @moinshaikhI might just campaign for the term “Mikipedia,” what do you think? @mike-stelzner

  • Interesting thread here, yet again. I think most has been said in prior comments, though I am not so sure about Mikipedia… ;-)

  • there is so much information on SME that it is like an encyclopedia for social media like wikipedia is an online encyclopedia and since Michael is the founder……., well, you knew that, didn’t you? @fredericgonzalo

  • @deairby

    Mikipedia”… I love it!
