new marketing via pinterest…. (15 posts)

  • today i  got  2 email   invitations  from   big  companies to follow their   pinterest post…. that was new for me..anyone  else  getting this?

…  i dont think i would  do that…kind of outside the   exploratory  experience of pinterest….

  • @annfurnivall I think it would be all in motivation. I don’t see myself following a big company, or anyone other than a client or close friend UNLESS I have a specific interest in what they might pin.

For example, as I get ready to look at remodeling my kitchen in about a year, I will start looking at pictures for ideas. A bride-to-be or mother of the bride might follow bridal companies, etc.

It’s all in a frame of reference.

But will I follow Target or Home Depot? No.

  • @joanmuschampfagnani thats how i feel too..im  really not on pinterest to be marketed  to….

..p.s… i  just  got  2 more  , these were from   regular  people….. im  guessing  pinterest  has  some new  THING   going on…..  anybody  know  about  this?

  • @annfurnivall @joanmuschampfagnani

Ann and Joan, would yall mind sharing what your “invites” say? I’m curious. I know there’s a lot of marketing materials being pushed right now showing marketers how to market on Pinterest… so I was just wondering how they’re doing this.

Personally, I’m not opposed to it… not wanting it either… but I guess I’m just curious to see what the future holds if suddenly it gets all “markety” over there, lol.

  • @annfurnivall

Let’s face it, Ann. If you are online, you are someone’s target market, lol. Eeeeck! There’s no escaping!

  • @atlantarobinit  looks like its  thru  pinterest….   just a simple invite

Hi, Ann at!California Home + Design Magazine

California Home + Design Magazine just created Designing Tips and DIY. You already follow some of California Home + Design’s boards; you might like this one too.

    See board

@atlantarobin  im so interested in pinterest…and how they  will  grow and evolve….i dont  realy like this tho….feels  against the  CULTURE  of the place to me…i accept to  being marketed  to….

  • @annfurnivall I have gotten the emails too. I would like to know how they determine which ones to send to me. I guess since I link via Twitter that they can view connections that way. I usually ignore them unless it’s an account of interest.

  • @kc_kreative yea, i just got a  lot more .something is  different…

..yesterday i put a pinterest app on  my   ipad….  maybe that  did  something…

  • @annfurnivall Hmm…I just took it off my phone but they might’ve grabbed info before I deleted the app…

  • @annfurnivall Thanks for sharing! I followed those boards.Really when all is said and done the object is that these boards go viral so that the readership goes up so that people purchase from them and they make more money. We are feeding into their plan. Which I don’t mind because I like the boards. So they’ve targeted well with this email. I love how the Internet can read ones mind. (not!)

  • but i  have  connected  with hundreds of people on  ppinterest!!  lol….  i dont  want them  in my  email  folder  and  also  dont want t o  ban all pinterest,  since i would  want to hear a real message f rom   them…. so im  hoping  for a work around.???? most of  these arent  trying to sell me  anything….its  other users like me…some  were  commercial but not all…..

…   hoping its my ipad   app… havent   disconnected it  yet…..totally hoping  facebook and  SME  do not  start  doing this about  every  one of my    connection’s new post……lol

@amyhallbiz if    you get any official info on this  i would love to hear,,,

  • @annfurnivall

It seems like this is similar to Twitter sending me weekly emails on “Tweets I may have missed” or whatever they’re calling it. (As opposed to some giant corp inviting you to follow their boards, which I thought you originally were saying.)

Social media’s dirty little secret? Email is still extremely effective. It’s easy to miss tweets, FB updates and pins…not so easy to miss emails that appear in your inbox.

And, if these are spot on–pins from a person who always finds the best grilling recipes or inside scoop on comic books–well, then it serves it’s purpose.

  • @rich-brooks the first 2 were from  companies….. now im  flooded with  others also….these emails arent   effective on me, just irritating, im not opening them….

i hope someone out there  figures this out and  reports……. i  want to  get rid of  these emails   if possible…

p.s.  i think i have figured this out, or heres my guess anyway……  i just went in and to  check    and   adjusted my  email preferences on pinterest….i was allowing  these emails to come…..  APPARANTLY  pinterest  has just  started   emailing  all the   connections   i had okayed a long  time ago……..  before  this week i   never  got   ANY  of these emails…. so   now i think   i  have  solved  this  by   just  changing my  preferences…i should  know by tomorrow…pinterest is  so  new and  evolving….

  • @rich-brooks I completely agree with you, one important marketing tool are emails, and if its coming from Pinterest and not a small business that doesn’t have a lot of followers it will get the confidence and extra attention from the reader.

I think Pinterest can be very interesting, but what would be a good way to use your personal Pinterest account to promote your products/services? How could you get to be a spot-on pin to be included in a mail? Could you pin your own website and promote it in a way that it doesn’t feel you’re pushing to buy or promote like @annfurnivall mentioned the companies she’s receiving emails from?

I hope my message is clear, as english is my second language and is kind of odd to communicate my thoughts sometimes hehehe :)
