My Company Website – Your views are valued. (10 posts)

  • Hi Guys,

Thanks very much for the nice welcome I have received here since joining this community, all the best to all of you and thanks for having me. I’d like to put ourselves up for discussion, improvisation and change. We several months ago put the company together and this is our first (kinda) rendition of our website. We are a start up company and I would really appreciate folks comments from a business/ SEO/ Content & Social Marketing aspect. Have a look and don’t hold back I’m Scottish and thick skinned!! http://www.fenwaymedia.co.uk I hope I don’t get in trouble for posting the link, if so, I’m sorry.

    Thanks for taking the time,
    Craig

  • I like the style of it, however I think the Facebook feed and Twitter feed won’t do you much good and don’t flow well with the design. Generally people will look you up on Facebook after seeing your website so I don’t know that its necessary to put your feed there. Just my opinion :)

  • Thank you Laurel, a very valid point. I was thinking to simplify things moving on.

    Kind Regards,

    Craig

  • Looks strong, Craig. I don’t see anything wrong with it, but one thing you might consider is putting a more human face to it emphasize that it is real people who will be helping them. Maybe add a personality to the blog, show some staff members (maybe interacting with clients), tell stories, add testimonials and quotes from happy clients, that sort of thing. That might help you stand out from the competition who might be saying and doing all the same things on their sites.

  • Hey Kathy,

Thanks for that and your right, I did mean to do a few “real” piccies and add some testimonials some time back but got wrapped up in life, so thank you very much for bringing it back to my attention.

    All the best,

    Craig

  • @socialmaniac It seems like a lot of valuable real estate is taken up by the header section. The home page does require a lot of scrolling on my desktop. The colors and navigation seem good however. Overall it’s a nice page but it does not “wow” me.

  • Kristy,
The kind of honesty you can’t buy and I love it. You echo our thoughts, we were not completely satisfied with the site, which is why I thought I would put it out for public scrutiny. The more I think on things now is “There’s clarity in brevity” So it looks like we will be shrinking the site somewhat in the New Year.
Thank you for adding value to this.
    Craig

I agree with @kc_kreative in the fact that there’s nothing inherently wrong with it.

My biggest issue is that it looks like so many other seo/sm firms out there. You could be in Edinburgh, India, or New York City.

It needs a dose of personality; everything on it is stock photography or illustration. Grab a local photographer and pay him/her (or barter) for a day of taking photos of you and your staff working with clients.

Show some pics of Edinburgh. (Local people will “get it”, other people won’t be put off.) That’s what we did with our website from Portland, Maine. People from away just see images of buildings, retail & industry, local people say, hey, I eat there! http://www.flyte.biz

    Good luck!

  • @socialmaniac I look forward to seeing the new site. You’re on the right track and should get some good feedback from the group :)

  • Hi Craig — @socialmaniac  —

I agree with much of what has already been said.  More personality and exposure for the people behind the brand. If that is just you, then you should have a page about you.

Once I scrolled through the pages I see the reason for the large header and you know what?  I think it’s nice.  Also, by now, (I think we all know this) people do know they have to scroll down to view more of what is on any given page. So that’s not a problem, in my book.

Suggestion – Header – maybe scrunch up the gray area at the top so it is not quite so tall. You don’t want it to be scrunched up though as that is where your page menu resides.

I like that the blog is an effortless transition – very nice.

    Eileen
