mind mapping software? (26 posts)

  • It has been suggested that a mind mapping software would be helpful to make some business decisions. Do you have any recommendations?

  • @deairby - I have used bubbl.us before.  It’s basic but works great.  If I am developing more of a process or system and want a flow chart style, then I use lucidchart.com.

  • i never  thought  of  getting  software to do it….  its helped me   every time…

  • where, how and how much are these softwares? @lisaschulteis

  • @deairby – I am rather frugal in my business, so I only use the free versions of each of these.  I have spent more time in LucidChart as I love flow charts and the formal structure flow charts provide. :)

However, I also like the free flow of Bubbl.

Both of these systems are online.  You just create an account and go.  Hope that helps!

  • awesome, LIsa, thanks. I’ll go there ASAP. @lisaschulteis

  • @lisaschulteis fantastic finding lisa! Thanks!

  • I use Mindjet MindMapping software which also works on my android tablet. I have to admit that my favourite way is a large piece of brown kraft paper stuck to the wall and a couple of markers though.

  • another freebie that has a LOT of options

  • Hi Dea, Ive been working now on my brainstorming for the next project online.. I’m using http://www.mindmeister.com/?r=1773 . It allows to collaborate with others in real time (especially when you are outsourcing and you want to instruct points with them), changes are allowed infinite, changes are also saved in the servers so you could review how the “conclusion” for a certain plan was made, can be accessed using IPad/IPhone.. :)

  • I need a program to use to decide which program to use to make a decision!!!!! Are any of these useable offline? @aprilmae202 @roguecitrus @knoware @lisaschulteis @lisaschulteis

  • Usability offline:

Yes to freeplane and yes to another I use offline

    http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Download

    Been using this for years

  • yes, you can use Mindjet offline. Here is the website: http://www.mindjet.com/ .
    GL!

  • One I’ve been using for years is NovaMind. Easy and fun to use: http://www.novamind.com/

    Cheers, Robert

  • I second FreeMind (http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Download). Been using it for years also. Simple to use. Gets the job done. Can use offline.

  • I use FreeMind on the PC, but I also love to use iThoughts HD on my iPad (if you have one). I like having the ability to use my hands to move things around. I don’t know why, but the tactile nature of it just seems to help. Or maybe it’s the fact that I can sit in my comfy armchair and relax while I organize and brainstorm! You can export files from iThoughts to several different file formats, including the one for Freemind, pdfs, jpegs, etc.

  • ok, I downloaded freemind. not sure how to use it, is it only the diagram or can it be like an infograph? @appsblogger

  • Like Robert Novamind is good, I also use Mind Mapping -

  • @deairby I only use it for the diagram feature. Not sure about any infograph features.

  • ok, thanks :) @appsblogger

  • a while back I used a service called bubbl.us which I remember being very solid.  not sure if they also included an offline feature though?

  • FreeMind’s a great mindmapping tool, but can’t make your decisions for you, Miss Dea. BUT, there’s a great decision tree in the What Color Is Your parachute Book that will definitely help you PRIORITIZE a list of choices. It may also be in the Crystal companion book that goes along with Parachute… Where Do I Go From Here With My Life.

I made my own priority grid from it and keep copies in my Keeper File. Uhhhh, most of the time, lol.

Sorry I haven’t tracked down that online decision tree thangy I told you about, but as you know my computer crashed 10 days ago and I’ve been playing desparate computer repairwoman ever since. I’ll look around for it online when things get back to normal.

But do use Bolles priority grid. A very helpful all purpose “old school tool” I’ve been using for 25 years, lol.

  • Buzan is the classic old school and most detailed still but I have been playing with some as Chrome Apps like Creatley, mindjet and Lovely Charts

    Here’s a blog I found that compares them: http://mindmappingsoftwareblog.com/

  • thanks for the link, Stephen @stephengbarr

  • YW

  • I’m using a trial version of Smart Draw.  Very user friendly.
