Membership sites. Which one do you use? (8 posts)

Topic tags: membership site
  • I am looking for a membership site for a client.   It needs to do payments, auto renews, newsletters, export capable and the usual basics.  Does not need affilate info.   What have you found?

I use Amember, but am not sure about the export capable.  Since this is a non Wordpress site we are not looking at Wishlist.

    Thanks so much.

  • I am also very interested to know more on this topic and find out what is out there. The ones I know of , but not really meeting the requirements in my opinion are: http://www.ning.com/ andhttp://www.boonex.com/dolphinPlease share any that you know of. Thanks, Clinton

  • I’ve played with http://www.wildapricot.com/ while setting things up for one of my clients and – for a membership site – I think it works quite well. Once you get your bearings, it isn’t too bad to work with (relatively speaking).

  • Thank you Clinton @clintonlord  I had not heard of either of those before.  Even though I have heard mixed reviews about Nings platform.

I am also hoping to hear from more people who are using membership sites.  I also see there is software out there, but have not really taken the time to look at any since I installed the Amember.

  • Hi, Susan @mycommcoach

Thank you for sharing your experience.  Finding the right membership site is not as easy as it sounds.

Does wildapricot offer auto renews, newsletters, and is it export capable?  Would you mind telling us why you choose it?

  • Appreciate the discussion on membership sites.
I have used mostly ning.com extensively in the past.
I am considering going back possibly.
The cost and some details are a bit steeper than had been but have to decide if it’s what I want to do.
The discussion certainly gets me thinking though.

  • Hi Randi @randithompson

    re: Wild Apricot:

It does offer auto-renews & email newsletters (although only in a basic form, from what I’ve seen) — and also online contact management which you can certainly export.

In this case – I didn’t choose it; my client did. I just came on board to help design some pages, add some links, etc.

That being said, if I were looking for a membership management site with which I didn’t have to worry about the back-end work, Wild Apricot would be at the top of my consideration list. It also offers event management, auto-email reminders — all-in-one packaging with what appears to be a reasonable price. Though I’d still probably use ConstantContact as my email manager. (Each tool for it’s purpose & all that)

    Hope that helps!
    Suzan

  • @randithompson We helped a client with a Sugar CRM system. It did everything you were asking about — it’s web-based, so you can always keep it updated and upgraded. My business partner actually did it for the client, so he’s the one to talk to if you want a better explanation or have any questions.
