  • Hi, Does anyone have experience running membership sites? do you have any opinions about wish list or premise? Or anything else in this realm?Thank you, Margie Mintz

  • @margiemintz

I’m guessing you’re looking to start a membership site?

Question: are you on WordPress or some other platform? That can greatly affect which member tools would be right for you.

Also, what are the requirements you have? Is it a paid site? Will people have their own “home page?” Will they have a blog? Be able to friend others?

  • You guessed correctly, of course.

I’m using wordpress. It will be a paid subscription site, although it might be a good ideato have a free version. I’m in the midst of planning it out. There would be introductory giveaways, but paid sign-up after that. Maybe a free month or 2 would be good, actually.I do want people to be able to connect, but home pages seem a little further down the road. I’ve been trying to get this idea off the ground for a while now, so if I make it too big to start, it may never leave the gate.

    Thanks for such insightful questions!,Margie

  • @margiemintz  For Wordpress, I have heard great things about the buddypress plugin. A very prominent husband and wife team in Canada (The Fortins) mentioned it and explained it in one of their seminars.

  • @margiemintz @bob-green BuddyPress rocks! One thing to think of… The official BuddyPress themes work best. So youll need to start with a BuddyPress theme or convert over. Also you’ll still need a subscription/membership plug-in, even with BuddyPress. WPMU has a great membership plug-in and S2 member is a stellar plug-in.
