Marketing plan template suggestion (4 posts)

  • Would love to hear what marketing plan template has proven most effective for your small business.

  • HI @beth-kelleher-smith

I don’t use any of the ‘templates’ out there. Have never needed someone else’s help to impress anyone. OH – that sounds funny.  Well, you know what I mean.  I don’t try to impress, I strive to learn, educate and share.

As far as my business, I think we can chalk up mild success to any individuals ability to draw people to them with a message, expertise, personality, character or how ever you define what may be undefinable.  Not one to embrace fads (mostly) but some make sense and some do not make any sense at all.

A business plan is defined by the industry in which the business belongs. THEN, if you think outside the box, circle or triangle, you have something new to offer. Pretty simple really.

I agree w/@supereb that I prefer to make my own mistakes. ;)

That being said, I’ve found many people who have inspired me to take pieces of what they’re doing and put it into action.

I don’t know what type of business you’re in, but if you’re a service professional, I’ve been impressed with Robert Middleton and his Action Plan Marketing.

He’s not much into the social media, but he does have lots of resources and templates that I’ve found helpful.

    Good luck!

  • Interesting question – we applied for a city of Chicago Micro loan in 2011 – painful process. here’s the Duman Center’s (they contracted with the city & state to process the loans)  template: http://goo.gl/GrSx8. It doesn’t discriminate between SM marketing, SEM and SEO

I don’t know how useful it is but writing it all out is a great exercise. Took me about 2 months to tweak it down and ended up at 17 pages. That said – SM marketing is much like herding cats.
So when wrote my plan Pinterest wasn’t a factor. How will I market using Facebook graph search moving forward?
Right now we’re trying “this” and “that” to see if it works using all the analytic tools at our disposal.
I think this social media marketing thing is too fluid to have a rigid “line of site” plan that mus be adhered to.
