Managing Various Social Media Accounts (19 posts)

  • I’ve been using TweetDeck for quite a while, but it’s very quirky at times, especially on my iMac.   Looked at HootSuite, but they charge once you reach a certain # of accounts.

Any recommendations for other free systems?

    Thanks!

  • Steve, I found that all the free ones have some kind of limit once you get to a certain level. I just went ahead and got the paid Hootsuite account since I have so many profiles and groups. That said, I use Buffer also, but I use it just for scheduling out posts and updates. I love the fact that it will stagger them so they you aren’t posting all at once. And you can share articles and content directly from your browser, Reeder, Flipboard, etc. Very convenient.

  • @stevemcauliffe Greetings Steve, I have been working with Seesmic some while ago, they run mobile (iOS/Android/Win) and native desktop apps for both Mac and Windows. I kind of forgot them since a prior Mac version had some problems. Your post makes me remember their – back then free – services. Could be something to try out.

  • @stevemcauliffe I use SproutSocial I find that I can use the service anywhere has an easy to understand GUI. All around have had a pleasant experience. It isn’t free but it isn’t expensive either. :)

  • Anyone know of any apps or even web interfaces that let YOU decide what profiles to manage. I’ve found a few but you’re stuck with what they give you. OnlyWire has quite a few but there hasn’t been anything new added in a long time, but I’ve got a list of 50 that I’m testing out their value…

  • I’ve been using Hootsuite Pro, in big part b/c we could upload scheduled tweets and FB updates to our page…but it’s completely flaky on whether it works or not!

Want to try out that buffer app.

  • Thanks to all for your helpful comments. Will definately take a second look at Hootsuite and check out SproutSocial.

    Enjoy your week.

  • Is there really not one service that lets you manage all of your social media? Wow, I wish I was a developer! I would love to be able to go to one place and manage not just multiple outlets (Twitter, FB, etc) but multiple accounts at each…

  • If you would like to have one address you use for all your social media accounts, I would recommend using Xeesme – it’s free, Mine is http://XeeMe.com/Mari-LynHarris

For Twitter, yes I was not impressed with TweetDeck, Hootsuite is much better. If you set up another account using a different e-mail address works too.

  • Interesting… thanks @mari-lynharris .  I’ll definitely check it out.

  • Renee, the company I’m working with uses Spredfast to manage all posts on LI, FB, Twitter. Not free though – I’m not involved in the licensing end so costs are a mystery to me, but it allows a company’s team of users to have administrative rights. Very handy for those of us in account management roles to load up posts for different accounts, eventually do some measurement.

I’m going to check out HootSuite in my role as consultant/advisor to a friend who is interested in promoting his small biz through social media. A recent poll on LI asking users to compare TweetDeck to Hootsuite had the latter winning hands down. That’s good enough for me!

  • Although not free, I found Sprout Social to be the best option.

  • Take a look at MarketMeSuite. Its a desktop application with a lot social media tools and power for managing and marketing on Social Media and its free.

  • I’m a fan of SproutSocial. I only use it for Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook but its very easy to respond to large volumes of messages across all three networks efficiently. And its cheap.

  • I read an interesting article recently (sorry, can’t remember where!) that presented figures showing that status updates that are scheduled through Hootsuite, and the like, get less response than those that are posted directly.  Perhaps it shows a less human interaction.

I’m interested to find out what you all think?  I ask this as I am about to launch into the social media arena and using this sort of software would obviously make the job much easier.

  • Hi @emmagillings …this may be what you read about Hootsuite and how scheduled FB posts may effect your EdgeRank

    http://www.ilikesocialmedia.com/2011/09/does-using-hootsuite-kill-your-facebook-edgerank-yes/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=send+social+media&utm_campaign=iLikeSocialMedia.com

  • Hi @stevemcauliffe, Im also in the same boat when looking to use tools online for my clients, I have found that Tweetdeck is often best for monitoring buzz and engaging in conversation whereas Hootsuite’s post planning abilities are far more clean cut, heres a great list i came across 48 FREE SOCIAL MEDIA TOOLS.

    Hope this helps :)

  • Thanks @stevemcauliffe. Yes that is what I had read.  Would be interested to see if anyone here uses Send Social Media, and what their thoughts are on it.  It would be useful to use something that sends out your updates via the company name and not the middleman’s name.

  • Thanks, @marylynnharris …will check that out…@richbrooks I didn’t see benefits of using Hootsuite (love the name, though!) maybe I just didn’t understand it?@emmagillings I prefer to think more personally about my postings, even though I’m sure there are times when it would be nice to have auto post.
