Make side-by-side windows on Mac? (3 posts)

  • How do I get two windows on my screen side-by-side on my miniMac.

I use Firefox mostly, but have Safari, too.

Can anyone help or have a referral for me? Link? Thanks.

I must be misunderstanding your question, b/c it seems like you can just arrange your windows however you like.

How does a miniMac differ from a regular one? (Um, besides being mini.)

  • It doesn’t really matter whether miniMac or not. All Macs are powerful. This one I can throw in my purse and hook up to any screen. I’ve got it hooked up to a smallish Dell monitor now. But that’s not the problem. I just noted that because Mac users always ask what kind of Mac I’m using, and the miniMac has only a few USB ports which sometimes limits me for some purposes requiring add-ons used simultaneously. I usually just say MiniMac to avoid the long Q&As.

On my souped up Dell PC (in storage and inaccessible) I can easily have two search pages side by side. I just use Internet Explorer, clicking once to pull up one page, then clicking another time to get another window. I resize the windows to have them side by side, using search functions independently.

When I do writing assignments, I can type my drafts directly into a site’s online writing space made for that purpose. I use the other independent IE window to search and research information related to the story I’m writing in the other window — both in real time. For most projects, I need to directly type online, for time, but also because formatting problems can occur, wreaking havoc sometimes.

On my Mac, using Firefox, I cannot do this. I have to toggle back and forth between the two tabs because I can’t pull up a second independent Firefox window. Hence no side by side view. It forces me to depend on an excellent memory, which is stressful, slows me down, and I really don’t have one when writing about complex subjects or trying to quote verbatim. It’s truly limiting the subjects I’m writing about now. Can’t do technical ones presently as I cannot spend the extra time and stress toggle-writing them. I’d use the Mac Pages software but the toggle problems are even worse and more time-wasting.

Soooooo… I’m looking for answers. I also have Safari on here, though I never use it. I read somewhere that Safari has the capability to bring up side by side windows like in IE. Unfortunately the link to the how-to story was broken so got no answers to this question. Does anyone here know how to help me do that? Rich do you or someone you know know how to do this?

And don’t even get me started in how this is getting in my way on the video side of this…. So help, pretty please!
