Major Change for 2013 (10 posts)

Topic tags: new years, resolutions
  • New Year’s is always a good time to re-evaluate what we’re doing for our businesses–a natural time to look both backwards and forwards.

    One major change I plan on making is limit or remove as much automation in my marketing as possible. Spend more time going deeper with fewer people, i.e., focus on who’s leaving comments on my blog, who responds to my tweets, etc.

    Also, locally I’m going to work to forge better relationships w/some of my competitors, looking to bring up the local industry as a whole.

    How about you?

  • …develop  a  bigger better   focus  for marketing our  custom  counters and  tables…make it  clearer and  easier……

    “`focus on  wholesale more,..

    “`new building and 2 new workers……who knows on this one!!!  already  started….im  hoping i can make a  job  for the main one that will   free   me up  ..so i  can  get out  more…back to my roots….or at least   go  home early if i  want to…and know the store is in  good hands….

    ….get out more and network more and  build my  buying  connections   more..maybe some shows….

    ~~~be a better resource on the  facebook page  …little  ebook…and i n the store with more  parts and useful things and   little  freebies of info…like a notepad  with our paint recipe on it….  be  more like  trader joes…
    ~~~maybe some  computer lessons…so i  can use all this  stuff  we have better..

    .~~~stick with facebook and pinterest, keep an eye on  g+…..

    You know it’s funny, you both have ideas that would be a good fit for me too.

    Rich – You’re right on about pulling in a bit – there are only so many hours in a day and connecting with the right people during those hours is really important.

    Hi Ann – I’d like to spend a bit more time uh, not working. More leisure time, at this time in my life is truly needed. Even though I love what I do, there are other obligations for all of us that at some point need to be put on a front burner. For our own sanity, if nothing else.

    I will be waiting to do analysis of many websites (@ end of December) and combine some of those numbers to see what direction I’d like to go, for some major changes for the new year.  I want to work, but not quite as much (all day, everyday).

  • @supereb.i hear  you!! ..but   my  time off  goal is more about  doing  more of the   fun  side of my  job…getting out and  buying  and  networking….i have a lot more  boring  jobs at  the  store than i used to….  …….im  hiring  a new worker  and hoping i  can   get away more….

  • My goal is to slow down and breathe. I will be taking time to sit for at least 20 minutes, twice per day, in meditation and centering prayer.

    For direction and encouragement, I’ve joined an online group that starts afresh in January. Here’s an info link for anyone interested: http://www.contemplativeoutreach-co.org/index-3.html

  • I have started my own biz only 1.5 years ago and during 2012 I gained a lot of experience but also gave away lots of hours for (almost) free. My plan for 2013 is to actually earn some money – and this might involve a ‘redesign’ of my favourite customer as defined in my biz plan. ;-)

  • The promise of the new year and new beginnings is so envigorating and renewing. I just want to be more consistent, with my marketing, my free time, my productivity. My goal is to create some written systems which will help me streamline and simplify my processes and become more consistent with my everyday tasks.

  • @rich-brooks Work on launching my personal consulting business more (create a FB page, get a website, etc.). Surviving my association’s conference (as it’s going to be a big one + the awards program). In regards to your deeper relationships mention, I will probably be reviewing my Twitter follows and paring down a bit to use lists more. HNY!

    Rich, I love that goal… “forge better relationships w/some of my competitors, looking to bring up the local industry as a whole.”
    There’s so much more that can be done when collaborating, rather than competing. The internet has changed the expansive shape of competition as far as “local” goes. What use to be a “local” competitor can now be your best collaborative partner online serving up twice the benefits to customers online and to a much, much bigger audience. And it doesn’t really matter how small a “local” market you “had,” once you discover how to tap into that much larger online market.
    Collaboration is definitely a 2013 goal for me.

  • Going to work on doing a better job of defining “Why” I do what I do, with the hope that others will believe what I believe.
