Mac Stuff! (3 posts)

  • Hey, as someone who made the switch to Macs only about four months ago, after 30 years on PCs, I think it would be great to have an ongoing thread involving those of us who are Mac users for our small businesses.  What are the apps you love to use?  Great Mac-specific sites?  Other resources?  It COULD be a separate Club at some point (hint to Mike!).

I currently have both a two-year-old iMac and a new MacBook Pro 13″.  I use the latter on the road, for which some adaptors are critical (e.g., for interfacing with VGA and HDMI devices).

    Favorite apps at present:

    1Password — cross-platform password protection and management

Dropbox — I don’t know how I ever lived without this.  All of my critical files are now in Dropbox and accessible anywhere, from darn near any device, including my Droid.

CalcMadeEasy — a LARGE calculator that’s easy on the eyes.

Facetime — for talking F2F with my loved ones from my Mac, as long as they have an iPhone4+.  And for F2F with any other Mac/iPhone user.

    Mac owners, come on in!

I probably have a bunch, but if you’re doing any type of screen capture I can’t recommend ScreenFlow highly enough!

I also couldn’t understand why Mac would put out a slide deck program when Powerpoint was essentially free, as it was bundled with office. Then I tried Keynote. No matter how many improvements there have been to PPT, it doesn’t hold a candle to Keynote.

Most everything else I use is cross-platform.

    Welcome to the club!

  • ScreenFlow looks cool.  I was planning to do more of my own video broadcasts, it looks like it would be great for that, thanks!

And for a different kind of capture — printing the screen or any portion of the screen — I use Grab.  Great app!  Available in the AppStore.
