local LOCAL local (9 posts)

  • my social media is aimed at local…getting  people to my store..we dont sell on line….. i would love to hear   about  some  great  local plots that  you have seen  your  local businesses   use….or  that you   do as a local  business…

one i know is a resturant…she posts  her  specials  every morning….every day i  know what i could  get  for lunch  from her..it  keeps  her  resturant on  my mind  ……its  super  clean and  clear and  short  with a little  graphic..andits there every morning like  clockwork…….also  she  makes  bigger posts   when something  extra neat    is  going on…or  she has aan event, like a  valentines dinner.

  • What type store do you have? If you are a brick and mortar, do you access foursquare?

  • @annfurnivall Anne, I like to put first things first, starting with verifying and optimizing your Google Local Places Page to the max — lots of details, max photos, videos, coupons, offers, etc.

Your Places page done right can boost your Google Page SERP ranking, getting your business closer to the top of the first page, if you have a website, and generating foot traffic even if you don’t yet have one.

I assume you have a customer email list to send an email newsletter to with your “offers” or special promotions. Dea’s right, however, in that we need to know a bit more about who your ideal customer is, what their problems or needs or wants are, and what solutions your business provides to them.

The restaurant owner’s customers obviously want to know “what’s for lunch” so they don’t miss a good one — a great example of how this owner is thinking of her customer’s wants.

By the same token, what do your customers or prospects reeeeeeeeally want? Give them that through your business and they” not only love you, they’ll bring more friends.

So give us a wee bit more info and perhaps we can better help you brainstorm here. Okey dokey?

  • @atlantarobin…thanks robin…we do most of  what you  mentioned..thats a  great list!!!.. but mainly   i was   wanting to hear about other local users and how they  do it..

do you  follow  any?  so  you  see any neat  examples  out there?

our  store is   deep into all this.   http://www.facebook.com/greenoakantiques  with over 2000 fans….and  we are  on the  first page of   google   for our main  key word..

im hoping there are some  other  heavy local  users on  here…would love to hear   plots and  whats working out there and  their/your pages……

i wasnt   trying to talk about our problems…altho they are  there of  course…mostly about  focus, we cover so much….and  figuring out our new customers…  the old words  dont  fit and  i dont have a good new keyword..we used to be all antiques now we are  selling to new  buyers  and we are half new and half old and  garden  too…and  recycled ….so its pretty   confusing and  messy…. we have a great  group of   customers  tho!!!!

you are  right…the  resturants   path  is a lot  simpler  than  ours…. my  best thing is  pictures i guess….and  not   trying to sell in every facebook post…. i  dont  go  for  contests   or  tons of  specials …more about  what just  came in or whats exciting  …

@deairby yes  we are  brick and mortar… http://www.greenoakantiques.com  and we are on  4 square….  do you  know any   neat  brick and mortar stores that use   social media  well?  thats what im hoping to read  about…real world examples……

  • went to your site, awesome store and offerings, we have your twin here in Georgia…. I am going to post your question in a different way to see if we get more of what you are looking for … @annfurnivall

  • Let’s see if we get a response to this thread: http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/clubs/small-business/forum/topic/brick-and-mortar-social-media-success-stories/ :)  @annfurnivall Here is your twin http://www.artfullbarn.com/

  • @deairby thanks…maybe we will see some interesting  cases…i enjoyed  the link  you posted…

  • @annfurnivall Also try Twellowhood.com. It’s an offshoot of Twellow, which is a directory of Twitter users where you can search their bio (Twitter doesn’t do that).

Twellowhood lets you search people based on their geographic location. Set up an account, and then drill down to the people in your area. Twellowhood will let you follow those people on Twitter right from the site. They’ll see your following them, and hopefully start following you back.

Next, go to Twitter.com and set up a list of your local Twitter users. Then incorporate that list into your Twitter browser (Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, whatever), and pay attention to them. Converse with the people in the list about whatever they’re talking about, and answer any questions that you can. Especially hook up with and talk with interior designers, realtors, and anyone who would be interested in your antiques.

  • thaks  eric….im  not interested in twitter…we have  2200 fb  fans  and now  pinterest….thats where i need to   be…

i dont  really get twitter   and  dont hear about it  much in the store…i hear about it online a lot tho….
