listing the sm platforms? (15 posts)

  • I’ve started a list of all the possible platforms to use to “get out there” and would love for anyone to add to it where I’ve missed ones, please. It is quite overwhelming to consider all the streets one can take to get to the final destination of public awareness! :)
So far, in no particular order:

facebooklinkedIngoogle+twittera blog (yeah, wordpress!)a websitepinterestfoursquaretriberryoutubescoop.itpaper.liyelpcity searchSocial Media Examiner clubs

  • Whoa! You do not need to be on all those platforms! Look for the networks where your prospects are. Otherwise it is overwhelming.

You do not have a website, and your blog needs to be indexed.

  • I respectfully disagree with you @anitacohen-williams to a degree. I do agree that no one has time to be on all SM’s and be engaged actively, but to not grab the freebies is a mistake. There is a big debate about if you have an account and don’t use it, isn’t that worse? NO. Why? because these freebies have many values even if all you do is register, populate your profile and leave dormant. There are a lot of high value back links out there (Yelp, Klout, Digg, Delicious) There are many search directories that you can create a quick landing page that has sufficient keywords to be found in the inter network search. (Tumblr, Wordpres, Blogger, About.me). There are many of these you can feed using RSS to have content populate from your blog.

Though I believe that your saying that you don’t need to be active everywhere, everyday. I do think it is wise to grab the freebies an capture the resources to brand Your Social Grid.

  • ooops, my list was supposed to be in a ‘list form’ not all in a paragraph

the point of making the list was to be able to look at the options and choose where to focus, just didn’t want to leave any out @jasonwiser @anitacohen-williams

  • Well list order or not, you did leave some out @deairby, Approx. 493 +/- were omitted… ;)

  • @deairby definitely great work! better if it were in list mode coz in its current form they look like they are messed up with each other having no space in between them! Also kindly add stumble upon

  • @deairby

I actually turned to your post because someone (Ry, I think) mentioned that he listed all the social media options and then ruled out inappropriate ones. I wondered what his list looked like. I was happy to look at your list of options and any added by others. This is helpful because I tend to simplify and concentrate on the Big Four or Five — you know the ones! So thank you! And keep adding any that are missed, please.

  • Jason,

I do not disagree with you. It is more the activity that I am talking about. Sure, have accounts on all the sites, but do not concentrate your time on those networks that are not useful.

Make sure your profiles are consistent, and include that link back to your website,

  • I typed it in in list mode but it reformated when I posted it ??? @moinshaikh

  • HI Dea and Folks.

Yes, it is best to have a profile on any (all) social media sites out there.  Even if you are not an active participant – what Jason Wiser said, I concur.

It’s also wise to keep a list of all those places and update them when changes occur. THAT can be a daunting task, when all is said and done.

I have a client now who hired someone specifically to update all their social media accounts with new information. It’s amazing to me that some companies come up with money for stuff they could spread out among employees. But I suppose, in the long run, contracting out that work does get it done faster.  I just don’t trust a lot of the contract workers to keep confidential information that should remain in-house.

  • These are additional social tools that come to my mind:

Xing (professional networking, big in Europe)

    Dopplr (travelling planning/sharing)

    plaxo (address book)

    Flickr (photos)

    Doodle (scheduling)

  • A few more social travel sites – Trippy, Gtrot, Gogobot, Wanderfly, Tripl, Tripping, Airbnb the list probably goes on and on…

  • @deairby With so many social platforms out there I feel you must be seen where your targeted customers are. You do need to be on some of the important blog directories, bookmarking sites, and most importantly Be seen on Google properties.

  • Paul, you are so wise! Good filtering option: where are your people? @ptwylie

  • @deairby Why right here :) .

Just kidding because I do a lot of B2B LinkedIn  and G+ . With Twitter as a marketing messaging tool.
