LinkedIn – New profile format (4 posts)

  • I just read this article on the changes that are going on over at LinkedIn. http://windmillnetworking.com/2012/12/14/maximize-new-linkedin-personal-profile-page-tips-2013/  I thought I knew quite a bit about LinkedIn and I learned new stuff! (I had to change my privacy options to make sure my profile was completely public.) LinkedIn is my fav social media and it was great to get a blow by blow update on the changes that are going on over there.

  • I just left more than half my LinkedIn groups (15 – 20 & I have about 1000 connections) in the past 48 hours. I got tired of hundreds of new discussions  with a question and a link. Knowledge powered by American Express rolls out these elaborate discussions like SEO and Adwords which if you followed the advice given you’d be on the path to failure. When I’d point this out to the starters of the discussion you’d think I was trying to take their first born. When I reached out to the moderator of the Amex group with one issue that you did in fact need (quality) back links on a website to increase rankings (in the thread started by a Realtor - every one wanted to debate me on the point) when I made the statement that without back links none of the SEO techniques giving would work to rank your site you’d have thought they were going to burn me at the stake for heresy (Because Realtors give the best SEO advice I suppose) as an example. The moderator thanked me for my input -
Lastly, I don’t know if anyone else experiences this on LinkedIn, no mater what you say or what question you ask – the thread continues with nothing more than “this is what I think” or “in my opinion” and you’d ask to see their FB page but it’s still in the “planning stages” - there’s little if any actual discourse.
I’m quite happy to be here on SME where people actually exchange useful and actionable information.
I feel unless you’re a job hunter, LinkedIn has become a time sucking wasteland. I’m also getting IM’s seeking advice because of my (former) Ubiquity on LI. Which is all well and good – but at this point where’s the quid pro quo?

If anyone in Chicago wants to partner on a SM agency reach out – I think a tidy income could be made with a handful of clients.

  • I do like the new changes over at LinkedIn.  The new profile page does look a bit sparse though.  I hope they widen it and make it a little more exciting

I’m going to move this thread over to the Small Business Club since it fits a little better there.

  • @amyhallbiz Wow. This is a detailed article! I didn’t know about the importance of Interests. People don’t seem to have a problem finding me as I get connection requests all the time; however, this brings me to my pet peeve: Why would anyone just send the generic invite? I mean, really, aren’t I important enough to warrant a customized greeting? Only those I’m curious about do I bother to send a “Why” email. This week I had an Account Manager for Eloqua send me a generic invite. Ummm….you’re in sales buddy. (BTW, he never bothered to respond to my “Why” email…).

Okay, my soapbox is put away now.
