Least favorite SM site (12 posts)

  • What is your least favorite Social Media site and why?  Is it difficult to use, to complicated, or maybe you just really don’t like the layout.  Comment below!

  • @matthewoneill For me, it’s Foursquare…I’m a B2B specialist, so its value doesn’t seem worth the investment of time. On a personal level, as yet I havent’ seen much benefit.

  • @joanmuschampfagnani hahaha I didn’t even think of Foursquare!  On the personal side I LOVE using it with my friends, but I agree, unless your company can offer some sort of Foursquare discount, there is not really much of a benifit to the system.  Though they are releasing a map system that should be like a “whats around” platform.  So can see what shops ect. are around besed off of search criteria.

  • @matthewoneill Perhaps it will mature enough to make me take another look; Twitter certainly did. When I first joined in the very early days, it didn’t add value for me./

  • @matthewoneill That’s an interesting question. The least favorite social media site is totally based on perceived value by every individual, so I can totally relate to Joan’s comment about Foursquare which I happen to like. But I know many who often tell me: why bother?

I don’t dislike any in particular, but I am not sure I totally get it with Pinterest. I can see the value as a marketer, but personally? I guess there are so many social media sites out there I already have to manage, it’s like, “not another one”… ;-)

I will keep at it for a little while longer, still. Patience is a virtue.

  • @joanmuschampfagnani @matthewoneill I think the benefits of FourSquare really depend on the business. For one of our sites it is a way for our students to engage in a different social media platform and compete for the mayor-ship. We don’t have any incentives for the check-ins but it is nice to see which students are engaged and check-in regularly. I integrate the FourSquare account with HootSuite so occasional postings to other platforms are shared through FourSquare as well.

Thus farm I cannot say there is a specific platform I dislike. I have ups and downs with different platforms. As I continue to learn and optimize our presence on the networks I think I will not have one I dislike but one that seems less efficient than others but either way I would continue using it.

  • @matthewoneill Going to have to go with Foursquare as well, only because it seems to have simply flat lined and is adding very little value at the moment.

It has so much potential but I think they need to move on from their roots and actually start offering real gamification (and not just silly badges) & then it will be able to offer a lot more to both businesses and people.

  • @alexandrabriggs I totally agree it depends n your busienss and profile customers whether Foursquare is a good fit. I know a couple of local retail establishments who found it helpful. Just not in my swim lane. :)

  • @matthewoneill

MySpace. Plurk. And a bunch of other ne’er-do-wells and has beens.

I like Pinterest, but I don’t see a marketing value to it (yet), especially since you’re not supposed to self-promote.

  • @rich-brooks random fact but more people are still using Myspace than Google+

  • @matthewoneill

Define “using.” I probably have 5 – 6 MySpace accounts I’ve accumulated over the years, but trying to find my login to delete those accounts aren’t worth my time or effort.

    Just sayin’. :)

  • @rich-brooks I totally agree…I’ll have to try and find the article again.  Here is one article that breaks it down by their unique users and Myspace still has the lead (according to this blogger at least) .
