LeaderBoard Point System’s Gone Woopsy Topsy Turvy Again (6 posts)

  • After going camping for a week, I expected to drop down on the LeaderBoard, but quickly got involved again and popped back up.

Then I noticed there were some odd shakeups, so I took the time to look at the points on people’s profiles today and noticed one hasn’t posted anything in the forums for four weeks and that’s the only post ever made — only one.

Two others have only posted 11 and 5 times respectively.

Don’t mean to offend anyone, it’s just sometimes the system goes haywire and Mike and Phil and Rich and Miss Dea and their magic techy gang need to know so they can fix it. Obviously, something’s wrong with the calculations again.

It seems the system may be counting the 5 points for adding each friend, as that is the ONLY possibly way one of the Leaders could be on the board, since that leader has only made one forum reply since joining. If that’s the case, most old members should be dropping off the LeaderBoard like flies soon, since we’ve been steadily adding members all along and there are only so many friends to invite. Adding 2,000 or so members is worth 10,000+ points so even daily active comments and postings can’t compare to those kinds of numbers.

Whatever’s going on, we need to fix it again. Anyone have any other explanation of how it could be working and counting points now? It could help our magic techy gang solve this problem faster. Watcha thank?

  • My points do not seem to be having any issues.  They are correct. And since math is not my strong point I leave all of this up to the expert programmers, etc.   @atlantarobin  Good you noticed and brought it up.

  • @trudy

Thanks for jumping in, Trudy. I took the liberty of looking at the points on your profile, which provides a great example of what’s wrong.

Whether it was for 10 or 20 points, you’ve posted in the forums about 22 times in the last four weeks. The “system” was suppose to be counting points only for the last four weeks, calculating who’s been the most active during that time.

It would seem, my dear, that YOU should be on the LeaderBoard ahead of the three that made only 11, 5, and 1 post to the forums during that time. Since I went on vacation for a week, I only made around 16 posts, but just dropped off the Board today (was still there at 7am this morning). So YOU should have been ahead of me at 7am when I was in the 7th spot.

See what I mean? That’s exactly the problem. Something’s definitely wrong with the KALKULATOR agin, lol. Mr. Mike, can you pretty please take a looksee at it?

    Thanky, thanky in advance!

  • @atlantarobin  Not to nit pick, but sometimes I post more than once on a topic as the dialogue continues (as now). It seems no additional credits are given for those posts. Boy, are we competitive  or not.  If the Founder added the points structure to encourage continued  participation, dialogue, etc the competitive nature  of points and new labels at mysterious point levels was dynamic, creative and in tune with human nature.  Congratulations Michael Seltzer!

  • I congratulate Mike everyday, whether he hears it or not, because I keep discovering another little creative gem here on SME that just makes my day, my job or my life so much easier. Thanky, thanky for that.

Things were initially dynamic, as you were describing, but the point system changed to reflect only the most active members in the last 30 days, counting ONLY the first post to any forum. That meant their was no incentive other than your own quest for knowledge and interaction to motivate those who created a forum to keep encouraging interaction within that forum. So, as you’ll notice, those forums that have 50 or 100+ comments, the one’s that reeeeeeeeally got a lot of bang for SME in the SERPs, well, the Forum originator who created it and kept it going got no more points for doing that. So when you see one of those, just know THAT forum host is truly doing us all a favor with no reward other than pure knowledge, friendliness, and devotion.

I’ve seen you in the forums Trudy and know you are truly one of those people. Thanks for doing what you do. You, and those like you, make this such a wonderful and magical place. So glad to be a part of this.

  • Folks – I am closing this thread.  The point system is working correctly.  Any issues should be sent directly to me.
