Keeping Control of Your Email Inbox (5 posts)

  • Since we now live in a society where we are inundated with email, how do you keep control of your inbox?  Here’s my tip…

I send a huge amount of email, so as a result, my inbox is always full.  I still use Outlook, so I actually have created folders for each client and created a rule that when their email comes in, it automatically goes into their folder.  That way, all of my emails from one client are located in one folder.  It makes it a lot easier for me to keep track of emails and responses.

What other tips do you have?

  • I also have folders set up for each client, but I don’t put them in their folders until after I’ve “acted” on the email.

If needed I use  http://www.followup.cc/ to send myself reminders on emails that still need attention. It’s also nice to use if I’m concerned that a client might not follow up on some task I’ve sent them. If I haven’t heard from them by the time I get my follow up email then I easily send them out a reminder.

    Cheers!

  • @juleswebb Excellent tips!  Thanks!

  • I too have folders for each of my clients, but I also have a “To Do” folder that I put emails for things I need to take action on, but don’t particularly relate to any specific client. I also go through my inbox once a day and delete any emails that aren’t necessary.

  • @theresekopiwoda – That To-Do folder could become huge! :)  Thanks for sharing your tips.
