Is this fast? Will it go Viral? What does Viral Mean? (16 posts)

  • I have a team of business owners and consultant that has been working on a project for small business owners for the last 2 1/2 years. They just released their registration site and they already have over 100K – unique visitors to their site. They had a webinar with like 60 people on it, and just from a few postings online from other team members and personal invitations. Is this fast for a site to get that many visits? Is this what it means by going “Viral”?

  • @prestonodenbrett

100k visitors is great!  It depends on the content of the site.  What’s it about?

  • yeah, 100k is a good start, I suppose you have to count how many are buying whatever is being sold. Was the 2 years used to build a network of people that will visit once, or are there a huge amount of future clients?

Viral is such an overused word. I guess you’d need to look at how people found the site. Was it being shared on social media? Did it get media play?

That seems like an insanely high number right out of the gate, when they only had 60 on the webinar.

If those numbers hold up (did you see the reports?) then they’re off to a great start…hope they have a way of staying in touch with those folks!

  • @iamconsulting @richardmclaughlin @rich-brooks- it is a online marketing portal for business owners. It has not officially launched but yes they have been talking and building this up for a long time… I am not sure I can just publish this URL on this post, if interested message me and I can give you the URL.

  • @iamconsulting @rich-brooks  @richardmclaughlin – yes- I think it is going viral.. just checked since this last post and it is over 425K+ – check it out here is the link. http://bitly.com/smashmarketing101

Free marketing tools?  Yeah, I can see that getting a lot of attraction.  I am a little concerned with the description of your SEO marketing tool.  It says it “creates continual back links”… that’s a Penguin slap waiting to happen.  How does it create back links?

  • @iamconsulting that is a good question. No one has asked me that before.. Will ask my team and hope to get an answer back to you..Thanks for stretching my thinking as well.

  • I’d hate for you to work two years putting together the platform and have it get shut down. The way it was described is what caught my attention. If it is an automated link building program, I could give you some ideas on how to change it so it doesn’t harm your business. You’d surely get a lot of buy-in regardless but because of google’s penguin update you could see yourself in a bit of hot water.

  • @iamconsulting they are not sharing with me what they are doing yet…. I am sure they are aware of this, and if not, I did email them directly… thanks

  • very interesting thread @prestonodenbrett

what is a Penguin slap? @iamconsulting

  • @deairbyPenguin is google’s web spam algorithm update. It targeted link schemes among other black hat techniques. I said “penguin slap” in reference to the algorithm update and penalties. Hope that makes sense.

  • thanks, Nichole, getting there with the understanding,….. what’s a black hat technique? @iamconsulting

  • @deairbyNo problem!Black hat is an SEO term used to describe tactics or techniques used to essentially manipulate your rank in search engines. Common techniques include link schemes which are buying links or using automated link building programs, keyword stuffing – saturating your website content with keywords (it looks unnatural), intentional duplicate content – using the same content repeatedly on your site intentionally to rank higher, invisible text, usually white text on a white background or similar so users can’t see it.

  • thanks, Nicole @iamconsulting

  • @deairby

    You are most welcome!
