Is social login right for us? (5 posts)

  • I work as a social media intern for a company called gogeddit.com. It’s a deals / promotion site that’s based and works locally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We’re definitely not a big operation, but after reading SME’s latest post, I feel like social login could offer a lot for our site, especially since signing up for deals sites can be such a pain and our marketing relies on a social community.

Does anyone know if there’s a cost effective way to conduct social login that’s more targeted at small businesses? Any information would be appreciated.

  • @alexmorask Not sure what you mean about “social login?” Do you mean to be able to authenticate into a website (like gogeddit.com) using Facebook, Twitter, Google, LinkedIn, etc? That way a user doesn’t need to create an account with yet another username/pw?

  • @robmitchell Yes, I mean being able to sign up for an account with our deal site through your social networks such as Facebook or Twitter. I’ve read that to incorporate such functions into your site is expensive and was wondering if it was worth it for smaller businesses.

  • @alexmorask

Since @mike-stelzner does that with this site (you can log in with Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn,) and he runs a small business, I don’t see why you couldn’t.

I think it’s just about having someone technically savvy on staff or hiring an outside person to hook it up for you.

The more you can do to make it easier for someone to do business with you, the more likely they are to do so.

  • Cool, thank you!
