The third of the three groups on SME for me to join, feeling a little like a fish out of water.
Since post-op complications almost a year ago (should have been back at work after 6 weeks – D’oh!), I’ve been eking out a living writing for various webmasters’ sites – at one time quite a bit more than eking, positively blossoming.
I’ve also been blogging myself and attempting (somewhat half-heartedly and therefore majorly unsuccessfully) affiliate/commission sales. I just don’t think I have the self-belief to ditch a ‘regular income’ for reliance on surfers to provide in its place to give IM the chance it probably deserves.
The recent Google Penguin update had a great impact on the webmasters’ sites for which I write, down to their off-site SEO and poor-quality inbound links, may I add, not my articles, and subsequently had them dropping the volume of articles I was providing in droves.
I’ve picked up work enough to keep me tided over since this abrupt downturn, but shiver at the thought of peddling my trade on the freelance sites for much longer as I have been doing since.
I need to understand social media and attain a discipline in business to help me succeed in building a flourishing online presence, hence income. My writing – as my freelance reviews will confirm – is 5-star. My social media skills and business acumen in a ‘working-for-onesself’ capacity have varying limitations, which need to be worked on.
Look forward to being here – I can certainly help you guys with online content and SEO but I have a feeling I’ll be taking much more from this group in the early days than I’ll be putting back – may as well be straight on that from the start.
