  • Hi all! Like many of you, I lead a dual life: By “day” (or deadline) I’m executive editor and co-owner of Pool & Billiard Magazine, a former professional pool player and marketer for the Women’s Pro Billiard Tour. The rest of the time I’m busy with my other company, Shark Marketing Co. that works with authors and aspiring authors around the country, helping them find greater audiences for their words via custom author websites, blogs, media training, social media training, editing and coaching. I’m a huge fan of SME, and am attending this year’s SMSS, my second year in a row!

  • Hi.  I’m Eric.  Husband, father and life-long entrepreneur.  (And writer on Forbes too.)
    3 Things About Me:
1.)  Love helping other entrepreneurs.  Are you an entrepreneur?  If so, I want to hook up with you.  Your Wisdom + My Wisdom = More Success
2.)  College Dropout.  Yes, that’s me.  Why?  Because all I ever wanted to do was start my own business.  Couldn’t do that sitting on my backside starting at the chalkboard.

3.)  Ice Cream Fanatic.  Well, this isn’t going to be much help to you.  Unless you want to hook up and talk about business…. over a bowl of ice cream.  :-)

Want to connect?  Come see me at:  Mighty Wise Media

Can’t wait to see you there…  :-)  Eric

  • Hello everyone.  My name is Tim.  I am interested in Marketing and Social Media.  You can find me online at http://www.LynchInsights.com.  I am interested in new ways people are communicating and interacting with brands.  I believe that 2012 is going to be the year of the Humanization of Brands.  Using social media more and more people are going to interact with brands in their streams, checkins, friends, etc…  How brands engage and respond is very interesting to me.

  • Hello all!

My name’s Alex Morask and I’m a college student at Marquette University majoring in advertising. I spend a lot of time working on my writing and learning about social media and content marketing as I hope to work in these fields in the future.

As of right now, I work as a social media intern for a small, B2B advertising agency called KW Advertising. Rather than working on their clients, I work to improve the business itself across its social networks and online presence through social media strategies and content development.
I look forward to learning more about social media tactics for small business from this forum.
    Thanks!

  • Greetings from wine country in Northern CA –

I’m Pat Chiappa and I work with my husband in his financial planning practice, Spiritus Financial Planning – he does the financial stuff, I handle the marketing, and everything else.  We’re small, and want to stay small – which keeps us on our toes. Miraculously, I discovered Social Media Examiner years back, which has helped me from the start. In the SEO world, there is so much to learn and it’s constantly changing – which is exciting and sometimes daunting. I’m still a rookie and I’m looking forward to sharing our collective wealth of knowledge with all small business owner members.

  • Hi Everyone, my name is Martyn McDermott and I co-own a small design business in the UK called Harrington McDermott Ltd. Our core service is Graphic and Web design, but we also offer eLearning, video production, web development, Social media marketing, event services and internal communications services. As far as our social media offerings go, they are fairly elementary, as we’ve fallen into it more by necessity than by choice as all of our clients ask about it and ultimately require it too obviously. So, I meet you here at the beginning of my journey into better educating myself on the power of utilising social media for business so I can better inform and serve my clients. And also apply what I learn to my own business too.You can connect with me and my business at the following social haunts: (Twitter: @designbrighton) – (Facebook: /design.brighton) – (Google+:  Personal Profile  - Business Profile) – (LinkedIn: Personal Profile) – (Pinterest: Personal Profile)

I really look forward to learning and sharing with you all.Best Regards,Martyn

  • Hello,

This is LC from http://www.tampaseointernetmarketing.com – I help small business owners with their online business, natural seo and social media marketing needs; this includes website / blog designs with content and online brand development. I’ve been marketing on the Internet for 13 years and FT consulting since 2004. Prior to joining this industry, I wanted to become a geneticist or physical therapist; learn how to play piano better and backpack across Europe. I ended up in recruiting, training and business development …. this lead me to the Internet for something “a little more exciting” to do with my life. I never turned back and love learning / sharing each day!

  • Hi, Charlie here. Back in 1995, I started a business called Pro Active Marketing based in Chicago. As a Manufacturer’s Rep, I was fortunate to make many valuable contacts from my experience being involved in local networking groups; business breakfasts, business after hours and such. Some of these folks I still do business with today.

Although things have changed dramatically over the years and I, like so many of my peers have experienced the normal ups and downs in business, I’m happy to report that I’ve been able to maintain my independence as an entrepreneur. Yes, there were times I was “forced” back into the job market; a postion I held as Account Exec for Sprint-Nextel for a few years during some lean times (for example). Nevertheless, we do what we must to survive and sometimes that necessitates a need to reinvent one’s self.

So, that’s what I’m up to right now. I see myself as an up and coming Digital Marketer and long-time Consultant who enjoys helping small business navigate through this paradigm shift in local marketing and beyond. Coming from a background in sales, I think it’s an exciting time to be involved in this industry and that might even be a gross understatement.

A couple more interesting tidbits; I’m an active Day Trader and Investor. I get plenty of satisfaction “beating the market” on occasion from my contrarian point of view. In other words, I would never buy Apple at $540/share just because every other investor piles in. There are other ways to profit when the Stock Market taketh away. For me anyway, that part of my life is more fun than anything else.

Finally, I have a very rare degenerative eye disease that was diagnosed at Mayo Clinic in 1985, and in 2005 I endured a related case of narrow-angle glaucoma resulting in another 10% loss of vision in my right eye. So I’m legally blind. I’ve dealt with it the best I can, but one thing’s for sure, it doesn’t stop me from learning and growing; and doing the things in life I want to do.

Thanks for reading my intro. I’ve enjoyed reading yours and it’s great to be among such an impressive group of professionals.

You can visit me at yourlime.com or Charles Trankina on Facebook.

All the best in your endeavors!

  • Greetings Everyone!
    What an interesting group.
A bit about me… I lead a small business consultancy here in Wisconsin called Capability Systems.  We help small-to-mid-sized businesses attain more of their aspirations.  We do this with our clients by co-devising simpler, yet more effective operational and strategic change capabilities for their organizations.  We’re often seen as strategic and operations execution practitioners but more broadly, we bring whatever methods and tools are necessary to best meet/exceed each specific opportunity which will get our clients to their best destination.

  • Hi everyone,

My name is Sean Keyes. I began my online adventure with the software company Uniblue.com before moving to Pagemodo.com the Facebook pages company. I now co-own http://www.AvalanShare.com, we have a social media product to allow online stores to reward their customers for sharing their product or service across Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Google+ and also email.

I am interested to hear from bloggers who are looking for social media products to talk about. We will help to provide you with as much content and support as possible.

I would also like to talk to social media experts who may provide social media services to clients. We are an online tool but there is great scope for social media gurus to offer AvalanShare as a service to their clients. They can offer the product to their clients and manage the product for them for example.

Finally I would also like to speak to site owners especially online stores as we can really help to increase your social media presence whilst also bringing you quality customers.

I also look forward to speaking to everyone who forms this community.

    Very best regards

    Sean Keyes

  • Hi all! I’m a former 20 year pro pool player and women’s tour marketer and (still) co-owner of Pool & Billiard Magazine, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. After moving from Chicago to Charleston in 1998, lost my desire to play on pro tour and got back into creative writing… That led me to help produce several writer’s conferences/events (Myrtle Beach, Charleston and New Orleans) and THAT got me interested in how I could help other writers get their words read and their books sold. Shark Marketing Co. (the “Shark” in deference to my pool roots) now works specially with authors and aspiring authors, building them websites, coaching them on DIY PR and Social Media skills and media training them for book signings, workshops, etc. Love, love, LOVE working with authors (so many passions for so many subjects). The biggest challenge is finding them continued best solutions and staying on top of the tech (so we can keep them writing!). So everything I learn here is very helpful and have seen some great biz’s into the bargain!

  • Hello All :-)

I own/run/am Guiding Light Marketing, a social media, inbound marketing agency and Guiding Light Websites. I believe in buy-local, real SEO, honest marketing, social media, SEM, blogging, and love helping small businesses succeed.
I am also currently building a playground (Rebuilding Rounds), which started out of my blog at Playground Hunt.
Before that I was a scientist, running a skeletal muscle research lab at a pharmaceutical company – Ph.D. and everything.
I have two children, two dogs, three cats, and a husband.

I started Guiding Light Marketing after Google changed the way local businesses are shown in search results in November 2010. Now local businesses can compete with the big fish by having honest reviews, a web presence, and being listed in directories with the correct information. Buy-Local campaigns are making a huge difference to communities and I’m an enthusiastic advocate. With Guiding Light Marketing I want to help grow the local community and economy.

  • Hello from the UK. I am Chas and I have run a couple of small business in the past. This is a continuation of my slow journey into setting up an online business. I am currently concentrating on the things that interest me and that have a market – photography, guitar and coffee.

I look forward to meeting, getting to know and learning form you good people.

  • Hello all!  My name is Kim Kline and I am the owner of Access Profiles, Inc., a background check services business.  Access Profiles incorporated in 1996 and our growth has mainly been by “word of mouth” and referrals since then.  We specialize in accurate, cost effective, criminal and civil court record checks. Our information is gathered directly from the courts, making the information reliable and up to date.  We are also able to verify driver’s licenses, education, past employments and whether an individual is eligible to work within the United States.

I am really interested in jumping into this century and learning how to use Social Media as a marketing tool!  Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hello!

My name is Sheila Edeliant.  Restoring Virtue and Excellence in Vacation Bible School is my goal through my small business, Hasten Home.  We are a primarily online business, based out of Rogue River, Oregon.  Of course, Hasten Home specializes in Vacation Bible School materials.

I spend much of my time with my children, at the drawing board (well, technically usually a clipboard or a lightbox), behind my husband’s acoustic guitar, or in front of my laptop computer.

I am most active on Twitter right now, under the username HastenHome.  I tweet about children’s ministry, Christianity, and the Bible.

If we share some common interests, I would love to connect with you there or else on Facebook or my blog!

Looking forward to the interaction here!
    ~Sheila :)

  • Hi all,

My name is Ryan Segovich. I recently switched jobs from handling all social media efforts of an SMB to being part of a PR team which services SMBs as well.

I’m still trying to stay active in all things social media, but now have a great need to get a new perspective on the small business side of things.

I’ve got a lot to learn, primarily in terms of good ways to develop new business, but I feel up to the challenge and excited by the prospects.

Incidentally, if anyone needs a good technology public relations firm, feel free to reach out to me.

  • Hi my Name is Trudy and I work for a John Deere Dealership with 4 stores in Central Washington.  My official title is Marketing and Communications Director.  I’m responsible for Direct Mail, the website and Social Media.  As a John Deere Dealership there are certain rules we must follow, such as: only sell NEW equipment within our 5 assigned counties, and only use John Deere colors on our website with no mention of other manufacturers on the home page.  We can, however, sell our used equipment outside of this area. Because of our marketing and website, we have sold as far away as Australia and China. We also are the largest potato equipment dealer in the state of Washington.

  • Hi Everyone!
I just realized I never did introduce myself and I have been here for a few weeks.
I am a consultant and reseller for a good friend of mine that has had a regular motar business for the last 25 years. He actually was one of my past clients when I was working with an advertising coupon paper. He owned eight tanning salons, two cosmetology centers, one wine and spirits and 7 direct mail magazines.

We have been working hard for the last three years or so creating a way for small business owners to get the most bang out of their buck by creating mobile apps/mobile optimized sites, QR codes (Track-able and owned by client not someone else) and recently Video Email, Conferencing and Video Auto responders as well as some other tools that are in development.
We have a vision to help the small business owner, by saving them a lot of money on this new technology that they need to switch over to before their competitors do.
    Our sites are the following

We are looking to help business owners and the best we have found is to create a reseller agreement with business owners that work with other businesses. We also have an affiliate program for those that want to just reffer business and get paid something when closed.
We are expanding Nationally currently and looking for some good partners to work with. We know we have the best tool out in the market and the most affordable.
We just recently had talks with a huge chain that tested our system and indicated to us that we are selling it below any cost they have seen from others. This makes us very happy.
Stop by and say hi or message me for more information on how I can help your business or other business owners you know achieve what they need to in the near future.
Thanks for your time today, I do appreciate it.

  • Hello,

I’m Nilmini Klur, and new but not-so-new to Social Media (I know, sounds like an oxymoron), but I can learn anything.

I’m trying to set up an on-line business (freelance support services for the legal industry.) I both want to learn about how to do so and share useful information that I gather or ideas that I develop with others.

I’m new to the forum and you can find out more about me on Twitter ( @nilminiklur) or LinkedIn ( http://www.linkedin.com/in/nilminiklur )

I’d love to connect with others and brainstorm, share my ideas, and learn from all of you.

I look forward to being part of this group and thank you for letting me read and share information with all of you.

    Warm regards,
    Nilmini Klur, J.D.

  • Greetings fellow SBOers. Before I introduce myself, I have to say  @edenrudin I love ice cream! I could live on it. I think I would be in heaven surrounded by ice cream, blogging about the different flavors.  @mike-stelzner You are the first person I began to follow and study when I got serious about social media management. You haven’t steered me wrong yet and for that I thank you.  Now, a bit about me. I started my 1st job when I was 15, I was…jk. Seriously, I began my love for cutting-edge technology back in the 80′s when I innocently accepted a temp job in PR at Apple Computer. To cut to the chase (internet time), I started working for myself about a year and a half ago. I have no shortage of clients and find myself not keeping up with the admin side of running a business. In a nutshell, I am hoping to gleam some golden nuggets of wisdom from all of you. I don’t blog as much for myself as I do for my clients but I am working on it. I am trying to summon up the Google+ bug and if one more person says Pinterest I might go back to online advertising…again jk, I would shoot myself first. You can find me as follows:https://www.facebook.com/TechEditz http://www.linkedin.com/pub/ellen-partal/41/48/42b https://plus.google.com/107328246183936084382/posts http://blog.techeditz.com/ So, start dropping those nuggets, I look forward to much exciting learning and sharing on this forum.Regards,Ellen

  • Hello all,

I’m April, The Mental Clutter Coach. I help folks get through all the chaos in their minds with weekly phone sessions and offer tons of advice on my site :: The Mental Clutter Coach

I’ve been an organizing expert since 2004, specializing in

    • Time Management
    • ADD/ADHD
    • Entrepreneurs
    • Social Media Goal Setting
    • Project Planning
    • and so much more

Each session begins with a “dump your head out” segment, while I take notes and help the client figure out which pieces to pick up first.

Then, in a coaching style, questions are presented that flush out potential solutions.

After we’re done I send ‘session wrap up’ emails complete with all agreed upon tasks for the week.

I’m currently working on a business model for a “DIY declutter club” as well as exploring ways to package my “Organizing Curriculum” for middle school students.

    All input is appreciated!

Looking forward to meeting you all

  • Hi everyone!

I’m Charlene and I’m a small business coach and consultant. I run the Social Media DIY Workhsop and I’m a featured blogger for Social Media Examiner.

I’ve been self-employed since 1995, and was a blogger before they invented the word! I’m passionate about helping people launch and grow businesses either entirely online or with an online component.

My background combines computer technology and instructional design. I’m a teacher at the core of my being. As soon as I figure something out, I’m turning around to share it with others.

And I’m curious. My personal Twitter profile (@Kinchie) says I’m 30% more curious than the average person. I can’t actually prove that statistic is correct, but it feels right. A guy I was dating once asked me if I could please not interview everyone we met that night at dinner. (It was our last date!) I can’t stop asking questions, it seems.

    Let’s see what happens next.

  • My name is Patrick Healy and I started Phacient in 2010. We’re a management consulting firm specializing in helping small to mid-sized businesses with their marketing, operations and technology needs. You can find us on the web at http://www.phacient.com and I’m based out of New York City.

We help to level the playing field for small and mid-sized businesses by helping them scale like their larger competitors by taking over the non-core aspects of their business that they are either unable or not inclined to do. We free up our clients to do what they do best while we do the rest. We leverage our relationships throughout the industry to help local firms think locally and act globally.

I also run a social media and technology meetup group in NYC called The Lucky Strikers Social Media Club. It’s a private business network that meets once a month to eat, learn, and network.

I’m passionate about people and technology. I’ve been called a translator, a Sherpa, a guru and disruptive. I’m OK with all of that.

Looking forward to seeing how we can work together and contribute to one another’s success!

  • Howdy All!

I am a small business owner with my husband.  We are a construction/handyman business in southern California -  “SoCal Mr. Fix It” -  and I am the office manager, marketer, etc.

My background is marketing and event management but now am developing this handyman business with my husband.

We are experimenting with all kinds of advertising and social media outlets.  It just takes time and testing, testing, testing to find the right outlet to put our resources into.  I appreciate this group and am sure I will find all kinds of useful information.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you think there is anything I can be of help with!

    Cheers!

  • My name is Tom Hall.  I am the inbound marketing/content manager for Complete Floor Care Solutions, Sayyah’s Cleaning, and Engineered Coatings Technology (website under construction).  I have the challenge of trying to make social media work for niche b2b companies.  I have been doing this since September and have had some success, but I am always learning, growing, and improving by surrounding myself with the right people, blogs, and resources.  Eventually I am hoping to branch out into my own firm.

  • Hello, my name is Julie Musial.  I own two businesses.  Media Ad Buying – How to Advertise and The Growth Coach.  I teach business owners how to effectively use traditional media, digital media and social media.  I have over 28 years of hands-on knowledge and have studied in-depth on all three mediums.  I recently finished my first book which will be published in April on my website: http://mediaadbuying.com prior to going on book shelves.  This book looks into all three forms of media and talks about “how to” in all areas.  I have written it so that anyone can understand it.  In the world today there is so much data that I felt a need to have everything in one place.  My book does just that.  I am also a business coach.  It is my mission to help as many people as I can to succeed in whatever they choose to do.  I have the knowledge and I want to share it.  I blog twice a week on hot areas of media.

With technology changing and my priorities shifting I want to make a go of being my own boss again and I created MoxieCreek.com.

The last five years I managed a residential construction company which was exciting and challenging.  I got into it at the peak of the market and watched the economic challenges take their toll.  It was a tremendous learning experience and I was involved with the operations at many levels.  One day I had an idea that the small builders needed to have a way to publish their home inventory and keep it updated easily.  And SimpleHomesLister.com was born!  My husband, who is an incredible software developer, helped with the hard core programming and pushed me to dive back into technology.  I am embracing and loving taking my skills to the next level.  Now I need to embrace the business end of this – that is why I am here.  Looking forward to the journey!

  • Hmmm…  sorry about the cryptic stuff in my first post.  Great first impression!  In case you are wondering, you may want to avoid using cut and paste from Word to here.  TMI!  Gotta love the curve balls technology throws you!

  • Hi all,

I am a Marketing Director for http://www.longtermparking.com. I am trying to come up to speed more and more on social media marketing. I already engage in it a lot and I am in the process of learning more about HootSuite.

Any advice on HootSuite? I am finding it won’t let me log in using the business page I have for Facebook and is insisting on using my personal account to synch. This is not acceptable to me. Any advice?
