Introduce Yourselves! (902 posts)

  • Hello, all!

I am new to the world of marketing but not new to social media. I was hired by Symbology Enterprises Inc. to help get them known throughout the internet. We’re off to a slow start right now but I’m hoping with the help of this Social Media Examiner club I can pick up the pace a little. I’m slowly learning more about marketing and how to intertwine it with social media.

Symbology Enterprises Inc. focuses on the selling of Intermec and Zebra products from printers to labels. Check out our website to learn a little more on what we do.

  • What an amazing group of talented people!

My name is Phil Lauterjung, but you can call me Phil…most people don’t get the last name right anyway. I live in Mission Viejo, CA with my wife and best friend for over 30 years. We have 4 grown children and 7 1/2 (the 1/2 will be here in May) grandchildren. Plus I’m the oldest of six siblings, so our family gatherings tend to be large and lots of fun!

For the past few years, after 25+ years in corporate sales & marketing leadership positions, I have owned Integrated LeadGen Results (ILG Results). I chose that name because everyone wants great leads that produce results (sales revenue), but most leave out the “integrated” part of their marketing. I provide that as a Duct Tape Marketing Consultant. Our network of marketing consultants is spread around the world and covers every type of business you could think of, so no matter what business someone might be in we have a consultant with experience.

You can find me using Social Media a lot. I was a graduate of Mike’s first Social Media Success Summit a couple of years ago and recommend it highly to anyone wanting to learn about it in depth.

Here are a few links and I invite you to connect with me – and I will follow you back:

    Twitter: Phil_Lauterjung
    LinkedIn: Phil Lauterjung
    Facebook: ILG Results

I believe firmly in being a life-long learner and I look forward to learning from all of you. See you in the forums!

  • Aloha, my name is Cory and I’m a local fitness professional (personal trainer), gym owner and motivational speaker in the West Michigan area.

I’m excited about being a part of this group and learning from each other. I just opened my own facility a few months ago and I’m looking to grow the business, learning along the way. I would like to learn from others about how to grow my business, what to avoid, tips and general networking.

  • Hello my name is Felix Lawrence and I started Correct Direct Marketing in 2008. We  are a  business development company and you can find us on the web at http://www.correctdirectmarketing.com in Roseville, California.

We partner with small businesses and non-profits. We help with all their marketing and advertising need, everything from Online Marketing, to print, design and branding and all under one roof.

  • Wow, just from what I’ve seen so far, this group is utterly awesome (and that’s not a word I use a whole lot).

As for me, I am but a modest entrepreneur who spent most of her professional life in the venture capital world.  When I was looking for a way to share my knowledge about ten years ago, the notion of my website (BusinessPlanMaster) came into being.  For fun I also started CaliforniaRendezvous.  So between the two, I spend a lot of time in front of my computer.

There are many great joys about working online, the greatest of which is that I have met some really wonderful people.  I am glad I have the opportunity to chat with so many of you here.

  • Hi, I’m JoAnn and I hesitate to try to explain what I do because my interests and activities are widespread. I recently moved my website development business, MuseTech Web, out of my home and work full-to-part time for a log home conglomerate.

I’ve been involved in the log home industry in Montana since 1996 and have seen many changes in the industry as it struggles to survive.

Currently, I work in the digital arena of website development and maintenance, social media, and online marketing.

This last year my life took a U-turn when I got custody of my 3 1/2-year-old grandson. My career had to take a backseat to his needs and sometimes things don’t get done on my schedule, but on his.

With the relocation of my business out of my home, my future goal is to grow the business and become less dependent on my day job.

Thanks and I look forward to seeing where this group takes me.JoAnn

I will capture as many questions as I can and post them in the Small Business club as appropriate.

  • Hello all,

My name is Pete Goswick and I have been in video production since 2001. Until recently I have been fairly busy shooting and editing video for clients. With the economy being slow and the availability of inexpensive, yet good, video equipment my production business has slowed down quite a bit. My background before video production was IT.

In 2012 I am going to offer video marketing and another income stream for my business. I’m comfortable with the video/audio and the techie stuff but really need to understand the marketing (content) side of the business.

My hope is there are others here that I can learn from.

I look forward to learning and contributing as much as possible.

    Pete

  • Hi everyone!

I’m excited to be part of this club and learn more from all of you. My name is Erin and I work in several capacities. I have interests in marketing communications, blogging, photography, graphic design, bookbinding, and a whole lot of other things. My main background is in writing and editing. I work with a few small businesses that my family owns, one of which is called Old Town Imports. We have an Internet-based business (based out of Salt Lake City) that sells aluminum serveware. It’s a lot of fun but we have much to learn about how to strengthen our presence from our name-brand competitors.

I also work full time for a start-up networking marketing company called GoFoods Global that sells long-term nutritional food products for both everyday consumption and food storage needs. It’s all delicious and we just came out with some beverages that I love too.

  • Hi! I am an small business owner who consults with businesses who are between five and 50 employees, but don’t yet have the revenue to support a full-time Human Resources Manager on staff.  I come into the business, audit files, processes, procedures, provide feedback, assist in or write employee manuals (handbooks), as well as assist in compensation (job description and salary range) planning for ADA/EEOC purposes, as well as help build compensation plans (salaries, job descriptions, etc.).

Another thing I do – because of my 22+ years in Human Resources and Recruiting, I have a in-depth SME knowledge of resume writing to get jobs or change careers.  I have specific knowledge about 21st century recruiting methods that will get job seekers ‘ahead of the crowd’ when it comes to getting seen by recruiters and headhunters.  I search engine optimize the resumes to get to the top of queue from searches in resume databases or on the Internet.

The third thing I do – I create and establish Social Media packages for customers who are not technology savvy to do it themselves, or need the social media networking capabilities for career changes, job search, or business development.  I have a package that power-builds an initial set of rich social media for customers, and they can take it from there, or they can use me to assist in managing their social media networking on a one-time, weekly, or retainer (monthly to annual) basis.

  • My is Rhi.

I live in Southern California. I have a precocious 8-year-old daughter who wears me out and a wonderful husband.

I also have CFIDS & Fibro, so it has been hard juggling life, family & work. I had to quit my job to be a SAHM and hopefully help my health. It is hard since I am extremely driven and have been working since I was 14.

I started doing free lance Web Design a few years ago to feel productive as well as helping some of the non-profits I belong to with their social media. While doing this, I fell in love with all things social media and have recently decided to start a new web business, The Parent 411.

I am hoping it will become a one-stop place for all parents to come to find what they are looking for. The goal for the site is to feature parent bloggers, have an on-line business directory and a forum board for discussions.

  • Hi everyone!  Found Social Media Examiner on Flipboard, and thought it was a great way to get some additional information regarding the confusing world of Social Media.  Saw this opportunity to join different clubs and figured why not give it a try.

I work for a small business called Teakworks4u, we sell Teak Bath Mats, benches and accessories.  As one of the younger people in the company, I’m trying to show that social media is a valuable tool and not just a waste of time!  I’ve only been here 1 year and have already helped redesign our website, set up Facebook and Twitter accounts, and taken some other webinars around social media.

Our website is http://www.teakworks4u.com.  If you have some time, take a peek.

  • Hi Everyone,

    I’m excited to be here.

I’m the co-founder and CEO of Vitruvian - we are a digital advertising agency specializing in paid search, specifically AdWords.

I’m also the co-author of Google AdWords For Dummies, 3rd Edition.

I have made a serious goal this quarter to get more involved with people on Social Media – Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, Google+ – to connect more, share more and engage.  Finished “Launch” and now 1/2 way through “The New Relationship Marketing” – so the notice about Social Media Examiner’s Networking Clubs couldn’t have come at a better time!  I’m excited to network, share what I know and learn from the many, many experts here.

  • Hello – I just joined this club and am fairly new to social media. i see that many of you have lots of background in it and so initially i will be watching and learning. i have a couple of small hotels in Marrakech, Morocco, and can see the importance of learning about social media for the future. it’s one of those things like the electric bulb that bring a major restructuring to how we live our lives. so i’m excited and totally overwhelmed with all the information out there – 90% of which seems to be generated here! I’ll try to keep up.
I’d add a smiley here but can’t see how to do it – I really need help.

  • Hi fellow small business owners,

I am from Florida. I have a nonprofit organization, Ark of Hope for Children for which I am Executive Director and a survivors coach. We are raising awareness of, creating advocates for, providing mentor/counseling care, and soon hands on care; for young child abuse and child trafficking victims. I use the internet extensively and am all over Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc mostly promoting our nonprofit work while attempting to raise funds. I look forward to insights I get here and hope they will prove helpful to the nonprofit community as well.

I became a website builder after building and rebuilding our nonprofit website. As the recession bore down on our nonprofit, I started building websites as well using GiveitaKiss Designs.

Then a start-up company found out about my extensive work as a Survivors Coach using the internet. They were building a 24/7 social support network for victims of all types and ages, which was right up my alley since I mentor many young people in such countries as the U.S., Canada, Australia and Ukraine. As their site was built and the owners were badly burned by web designers that took their money but didn’t build what they needed, a partner and I rebuilt their site from scratch. Although in its second rebirth, so still in infancy, I coach and mentor there as well. Justice For All Revolution

Oh yeah, I am very happily married and have 10 kids and 3 grand-kids. :P

  • Hello Everyone,

Where to start?  I know at the beginning.  I’m Judy, nickname Red, and have been a small business owner for several years, but just recently started a business that requires me to learn all this new “social” stuff.  That is why I’m here because I know nothing and need to learn everything.

What I do now is design perfume, and all natural skin and hair care products.  What I did before was own a daycare.  I know the burning question is how did you get from daycare to skin care?  Many years ago I was a licensed cosmetologist so it was a natural change.

Here I am ready to make social media and marketing work to my advantage.  I’m going to need lots of help.

If you are interested in my products this is where you will find them at http://www.heartlandsos.com.

    See you on the threads.

  • Hi everyone.  Glad to be here. I’m Jessica Lloyd-Rogers.
After 30-something years as a freelance journalist, I moved to a small town on the Oregon coast with no newspaper.  I wanted a newspaper with local news. And so, after telling everyone around me that there should be a newspaper here, I waited more than two years for someone to run with the idea.
Then one day, my new husband looked at me and uttered those immortal words, “Gee, honey, couldn’t you do that?”  And our newspaper was born.
It has been a huge challenge and I have loved much of it even as we worked through efforts by City Hall and the Mayor to destroy our business and run us out of town. We have loyal subscribers and we are trusted by all except those who don’t like doing government business in the open.
Because we began without a nest egg, financial backing, subscribers and advertisers, it has been a boot strap business from the start. I know all about hard work. I read all the time to glean new ideas etc., and it is clear I need to learn to leverage my work ethic, creativity, and knowledge to create a success. I see others do it all the time. And, I’m ready to learn how to do it for our business.

I’ve been interested in the internet and social media for a long time, but am still operating out of ‘beginner’s mind’.  I’ve always been self-taught, but I’ve realized that with social media, that can put me farther behind the curve than I would like to be. It’s a logical jump to reach out to others who I can learn from. I know I have many things to teach in the field of writing, freelancing, and to some extent, layout and design.
I am looking to learn is how to master social media so that it serves me and not the other way around.
I’m in the process of bringing my facebook pages up to date and putting our newspaper online. All, definitely in process and slower than I would like.
So, I’m looking forward to learning and sharing with the incredible array of bright folks I see on this list. I’ll be joining the other lists as well. This is my 2012 Business and Social Media University and I’m grateful to be here.
    Cheers to all.

I look forward to networking and building some great relationships with everyone. If there’s any way I can be of service, let me know.

Thanks everyone and take care, “Professa D”

  • Hi Everyone,

First, I’d like to thank Social Media Examiner for the wealth of information that you guys share with all of us. I have learned a tremendous amount from you! I am so psyched to be part of this networking group and have the opportunity to learn from all of you.

So, something about myself…My husband & I own a hair salon & art gallery. Last year I integrated social media into our marketing plan and enjoyed every minute of it. Since then I’ve been asked to create & manage a few other pages for local businesses. I recently created my own page and need to attract more fans.

  • Hello! A little late to the party but I am Lisa, a freelance print, web & email graphic designer in Chicago. Specializing in custom WordPress & logo design, also doing some workshops on social media & WP in February. Love to see where this goes…

  • Hi everyone, I’ve been in and out of the club for a while but never introduced myself. So here goes.

I am a marketing communications specialist in the insurance industry, for SIAA, a national organization comprised of nearly 3,000 independent insurance agents. So why am in this club? Well… a good portion of my time is spent assisting our member agencies (SMB) with their marketing approach as they fight for their lives against the larger nationals and online insurance options that exist today and communicating to our members about new insurance programs and services their membership affords them access to.

I also do a bit of freelance design and marketing, when I am not playing taxi to the kids or just plain old playing outdoors. I dream, plot, and plan about how to do more of what I love and get paid for it. Someday, I plan to jump off and work for myself full time. Connect with me on the social networks too!

  • I own a small business out of Austin, TX called Knektion (pronounced “connection”). Our tagline is, “Yes, we know how to spell, and we’re not a dating service.”

We like to have fun. Beyond that, we’re passionate about empowering individuals and other small businesses to achieve their goals through online marketing consulting and personalized campaigns.

As an offshoot of Knektion, I’m the publicist for a Tennessee author (Paul Spite) and just launched an Austin blog that I’m really excited about. I’m focusing on those two projects right now, and building Knektion in my “spare time.” You know how that goes. ;)

Look forward to meeting more of you!

  • Hello All. My name is Rob. I am a neophyte to the world of social media and seem to have a knack for ending discussions :) . • Hello, everyone!

I’m a certified Equine Appraiser and I own my own business, McCarron Equine Appraisals. I essentially do the same thing a real estate appraiser does, except I put a value on horses instead of houses. Equine appraisals are used in everything from divorces to bankruptcy, anytime a value on a horse is needed.

For more information on what I do, you can check out my website at http://www.mccarronequine.com.

  • Hello to all in the Group :)

I just received my invite and raced on over here to create my account and get started. Wow, nice to be here with you like minded folks.

My name is Paul Wylie I live in Panama City, Panama married to a lovely Panamanian woman who enjoys cooking as much as I do.

When I am not banging away on the keyboard I try to spend the time on my beach. Yup, my beach technically I don’t own it but it is always empty of people.

The peacefulness is something you can’t find in the city folks. I am an early riser, for me early in the morning is my best time. My quiet time on the beach chargers my battery pack and gets the creative juices following. A necessary ingredient for my work.

I have a small (boutique) business that caters to a select group of net marketers that I freelance my services to. I’ll provide some links below so you can check me out. :)

  • My name is Sandra Angelo, Art Coach for those whose art is so pitiful it never even made it to their own mom’s fridge.

For 22 years I have specialized in working with the NON ARTIST, taking them from stick figures to photographic renderings. My students have gone on to win top awards, megabucks art careers, fame, fortune or just drawing grand kids and Muffy and Fluffy.

My Home Study Courses are used by students on 5 continents and I host free webinars to reach them (recent webinar with 4,005 in attendance.)

I’m looking to form strategic alliances with charitable organizations to use my Home Study Courses as fund raisers.

i.e. http://www.DrawPETS101.com Home Study Course would be used to raise funds for humane societies.

http://www.DrawWILDAnimals.com (Home Study Course is being written right now) would be used for zoos and wildlife societies. (I grew up in Africa and am taking a safari back to Africa this summer: http://www.ArtSAFARIwithSANDRA.com.)

I mention this here because I’m hoping to find back door connections to these charitable organizations and discover ways to reach their customers through social media.

Do you know anyone in those industries? I’d appreciate a referral.

I’m the author of 49 books (with 5 on the way) and 20 DVDS (2 on the way), 7 Home Study Course (1 on the way) and had my own column in several national magazines.

  • Good evening and HELLO to everyone!
I am sad to say that I got the Beta invite but am just now getting time to join.  My apologies for arriving late to the game.
I am a Human Resources Manager from Hattiesburg, Mississippi working for the same Mississippi-based telecom provider for the past sixteen years.  My role within the company allows me to wear a multitude of different hats and social media is one that I seemed to inherit by default.  (You will find no argument from me on this!!)
My love has always been technology and writing – so social media just simply bridges those two.  I always wanted to be a writer when I was younger but life had a different path for me and I am eagerly anticipating writing more, connecting more, and learning more about this fantastic new form of communication.
I just began a blog today at http://kylemjones.us so feel free to visit the site.
I can also be contacted on LinkedIn, Google+, and Twitter.

  • Hello everyone, and greetings from St. Louis!

In addition to working as a part-time legal assistant, I own/operate an antiques & collectibles online shop, and have a Facebook page and blog to help provide a bit more exposure.

My desire to gain a much deeper understanding of social media has brought me to realize that, with growth and refinement of the skills and experience I already have in place, I could also be of service to other local small business owners.

I’m looking forward to learning all that I can and, of course, helping whenever I can.  I should add, however, that with recent and upcoming webinars, as well as maintaining my normal weekly work schedule, my plate and brain are approaching maximum capacity, so I’ll be in nibble mode here for the next couple of weeks.  :)

I am relatively new to the small business scene as I have just recently transitioned into doing full-time web and graphic design work through Sketch Graphx, my design studio. For the past few years I have worked part-time as a freelancer and after having recently been let go from my full-time job, in an unrelated field, I decided now was the time to pursue my passion of working for myself and building my own small business.

  • Greetings from the very brisk state of Iowa. It is brrr here but am warmed by what I am reading so far.
Can’t wait to get to know some of you and read more and share.
    Thanks for the club.

  • Hi guys!  Hope everyone’s enjoying this site as much as I am.  What a great concept!  I love that we have all of this info in one spot and that we can pick each others’ brains for info.  My philosophy is that every person you meet has something that you can learn from them . . . so I can’t wait to learn from the people here.

I have been quietly specializing in marketing for years, always driving people I worked for into something they hadn’t utilized to help their business, so social marketing obviously caught my eye.  I currently do the marketing for 3 golf courses and recently started a branding company with my son.  Our focus is small business.  I’m amazed every day at the people who think that ‘only big companies’ can do ‘such and such.’

As for links to sites that I maintain, those will be posted later.  All of them are currently undergoing a full makeover with everything moving toward HTML5 and CSS3.  Gotta keep up or be left behind!

I’m afraid that I may not have a lot to contribute to this particular group, but I am sure I will learn tons from it.  Who knows, maybe I’ll surprise myself!

My goal in these groups is to better myself as I help others do the same.

I am also a photography educator through my website; The Portrait Expert. I am a pretty dyed in the wool “traditional” direct response marketer and want to learn how to incorporate social media marketing to support my traditional marketing efforts.

I’m looking forward to learning and sharing. Great to be here.

  • Hello from Brooklyn!

My name is Rachel Maskell and I run a digital marketing and design company for holistic and integrative health practitioners called Revive. Our vision and passion is to help change the health paradigm by focusing primary care on preventative medicine…ie eating healthy, moving your body, and generally just caring for yourself and body.

I am excited to be a part of this community where I can learn and grow from other amazing small businesses and social media experts! My biggest challenge is my target audience, I love the practitioners I work with but they are behind the times when it comes to technology so helping them to get up to speed while using it as a Revive communication platform can often be challenging. Any recommendations are appreciated. ;)

You can learn more about Revive here:FacebookTwitterGoogle+YouTube

    Thanks!
