  • Hi everybody,
My name is Aleks and I’m currently one of those many overworked – underpaid ones. I’m a norwegian living in Belgium with a UK company and a passion for american culture. Currently I’m playing around with my own communications agency over at Bugcom. But I’m also acting as Chief Creative Director for a brand new cup called Stack-Cup and I’m tinkering with miscellaneous online inventions — such as yet another social network — but with a twist.
My recent focus points have been to better understand social media and simple game development, but my strongest sides are design and creativity. I’m currently reading “Making Ideas Happen” by Scott Belsky, in order to make at least one of my hundreds of crazy ideas happen, and my favorite animal is the otter.
I’m looking forward to learning from like-minded people.

  • Greetings everyone – Jeff Korhan here.

My background ranges from a decade in corporate sales and marketing for a Fortune 50 enterprise, then 20 years operating a couple of local small businesses that I founded – a landscape design/build firm and a snow and ice management company, both of which I sold several years ago.

My focus now is helping mainstream (brick and mortar) small businesses with their social media and Internet marketing – primarily as a professional speaker to small business associations.

I’m especially interested in SEO and social search, QR codes and related technology, content marketing, and small business trends. You can find some of my articles on these topics here at Social Media Examiner.

Beyond that, I’m usually consistent at providing fresh content for small business types at my New Media and Small Business Marketing site.

Let me know how I can help you.

My strengths are real-world small business experience – and breaking down technology and complex business ideas to make them practical and useful.

More than anything, I’m interested in people more than technology – so, let’s connect!

  • Hello!

My name is Keri Jaehnig, and I am the founder and Chief Marketing Officer for Idea Girl Media.  Idea Girl Media helps small businesses, non-profits, and political candidates attract new customers and connect with their target audiences through blogs and social media — Facebook marketing is a specialty.

I studied hospitality management, and in a past life I was a regional director for a non-profit leading teams in cultural orientation and educational exchange.  That led me to work as a Tour Director for Smithsonian Student Travel for a bit of fun!

My most recent collaborative project was a Facebook Game Of Like, where my partner and I put small business owners in a virtual petri dish.  We’re still working with this group and analyzing data.  :)

I blog about social media topics at http://ideagirlmedia.com, and have a regular spot at Search Engine People (http://www.searchenginepeople.com).

Looking forward to knowing you all better!

  • Thank you to SMExaminer for starting up this club. I am excited to see where this leads.

I am a serial entrepreneur, curious techie, eagerly exploring the technology frontier. I recently started DIY Tech Geek, a collaboration of individuals in small businesses that teach technology workshops. We are forging a new model of learning – hands-on workshops where people bring their laptops and just do it. We’re mobile – all we need is space and wireless. We’re affordable and our instructors are small business owners that use the technology they teach. Our goal is to teach people about technology when they want it, how they want it and on what they want – from Quickbooks to Social Media to QR Codes, etc.

I learned alot about Google+ branded pages from you guys today and implemented some changes because of that. Thanks!

  • Hello everyone!

My name is Elaura Green and I work for a not-for-profit organization called Northwestern Ontario Development Network. We offer assistance to the surrounding communities in northwestern Ontario and help them achieve funding and succeed in the projects they take on. However, my internship is coming to an end shortly, so I decided to take on my own project.

I am currently developing a business plan and will one day be the proud owner of a unique tack shop for horse supplies. I grew up in a home where both of my parents owned their own business and were very successful. I was also shown how a lot of hard work pays off and if you have a passion for what you do – going to work becomes exciting!

I have finally figured out what I want to do and I believe that networking and reaching out to people who have experienced the ups and downs of the small business world can be your biggest asset.

I look forward to connecting with all of you! Happy Friday!

  • Hello everyone!

I’m new to the entire business of on-line marketing of any kind, having spent most of my adult life either at sea and wandering the world, or working for government agencies that preferred me not to have a public profile. Right now, social media and SEO are alien concepts to me, which is partly why I wanted to join “the club” – to meet people, make new friends, learn, establish a fourth career, and create a successful small business.

My name is Jen, and I am very appreciative of this opportunity that Social Media Examiner has given us. I am the Receptionist for the Customs House Museum in Clarksville, TN. We are a general interest museum that features art, history, and science exhibits. Part of my job includes managing our website and social media outlets. I’ve had to teach myself about computers growing up, and am now trying to learn everything I can about social media. Our museum relies on donations, visitation, and grants to keep going. So I’m excited to learn whatever I can in order to help the museum grow.

Thank you to everyone in advance for being a part of this group and offering your advice.

  • Hi Everyone,

I feel humbled to be a part of this networking group as I would consider myself a social media newbie. I am in the process of launching into a new business venture in the indoor golf industry and have been a follower of Social Media Examiner for a couple of years. I’m hoping to learn and implement some new social media strategies to create a large following of indoor golf enthusiasts in my area before my business opens.

  • Hi there! My name is Val and I’m a blogger, a virtual assistant and an inbound marketing geek.I work with small business owners who needs help with their website and online visibility. • Hi everyone,
The Social Media Examiner clubs are such a great idea!  I am joining all three clubs, hence, repeating the same introduction.  My name is Sherry Nouraini, and  Founder and President of Captive Touch.  I am also Founder of Social Media Clinic.  Both of these services aim at educating small business owners in the fine art and science of effective social media marketing.  I was trained as a scientist and worked in the biotech industry for 5 years before I left the lab and reinvented myself as an entrepreneur.  I also teach biology part time at a community college.  In addition to educating small business owners about social media, I also offer my consulting services to biotechnology professionals and companies.  So looking forward to meeting great people here.

  • Small business? You bet: I’m Steve Hoad and I have run a number of businesses including an advertiseing agency in past years. Right now, I’m working with my family on Emma’s Family Farm and I find myself scrambling to deep up with sales, traditional and web marketing and then, having any time for fun!

I have experience as a writer, copywriter, and ad targetting. I have also worked in Radio and as a news and feature writer for a web site called AbilityMaine. I love networking face to face and find that social media can come very close to it but, without the travel.

For the Farm,I manage listings on various web sites, and  example of those can be found at:

    http://www.localharvest.org/emmas-family-farm-M19443

There are almost 100 of these sites where listings can be placed for local farms but we try to put generic listings on most of them with a select few that are regularly updated.

Then, I try to do a little blogging, all my guilty feelings about that have been poured out in the glog forum:

    http://emmasfamilyfarm@posterous.com

I manage our Twitter account (and have some fun mixing up the content there):

    http://twitter.com/thehoads @thehoads

and my daughter Rose manages our Facebook presence at:

     http://facebook.com/emmasfamilyfarm

All of this plus years of experience on the web makes me well aware every day that many sites and platforms on the internet, and now, smartphones,  are inaccessible to many people with disabilities.

I am a person who is blind, and navigation through some of the sites out there is impossible.  I use a text to speech screen reader and would enjoy talking with anyone about accessibility and issues surrounding how to improve it.  I also am happy to share what I know about it and maybe we can work together

  • Hi Everyone,

I am the founder of Chat Marketing Ltd. I am very excited to be part of the Beta testing for this fantastic platform and am looking forward to networking with you all over the coming weeks and months!

My company is based in Scotland and provides social media training and coaching to clients as well as consultancy services. I run a series of public workshops covering the main social media platforms as well as offering one-to-one coaching and consultancy.

The company is just over a year old now and so I am still learning how to run a business; what works and what doesn’t, as well as keeping up-to-date with all the latest changes in social media, so everyday is definitely a school day!

The biggest lesson I have learned since starting my company is that everything takes much longer than you think!

  • Interesting group of people from the descriptions here.  It seems the vast majority are involved in services and information and I saw only 3 or 4 ecommerce product focused businesses described.

I am a semiretired technology consultant who started an online retail store for quality cookware a few years ago. The nature of online retail has changed quite a bit in that time.  The major service providers eBay, Amazon and Google are now competitors which impact search results significantly.  So social media is becoming a much bigger channel for building relationships and developing customers.

Finding other ecommerce businesses and developing collaborative interests for growing business has been a challenge.  Hopefully this will evolve into the supportive master mind group.

  • Hello! I am excited to be here! I am a PR and online marketing consultant – I have been consulting for 7 years and was in the corporate world prior to consulting. I have worked with a broad range of businesses, including high tech, entertainment, sports, nonprofits, services and healthcare. My passion is the sports/entertainment industry as I am an avid athlete and I love traveling when I have the opportunity (I grew up in Italy). • Hey everyone!

Jessie Springer here with Western Reserve PBS based in NE Ohio. I’ve been with the station for the past year and a half fresh out of the college scene. Loving my job and all of the learning that has continued since graduation! With the station, I’m a communications-catch-all. I handle anything from producing the live on-air pledging to proofreading to monitoring our SM.
You may be thinking, ‘A PBS station? How is that “small business”?’ Well, my justification is that we have the PBS brand to help us along in terms of recognition. Otherwise, we are a full-time staff of approx. 15 people! We serve a medium-size market and still struggle to be recognized as Western Reserve PBS.
I will say, our efforts in the SM world continue, and operating with a bare-minimum staff, it’s incredible how much we’ve grown over the past year. I’m very much so looking forward to being a part of this club as it seems we relate to the efforts of small businesses well!

  • Hi everyone, my name is Steve and I dove into social media two months ago when I began working for Shoutlet.  Shoutlet provides a comprehensive social media marketing platform for businesses to manage their social media activities with one easy-to-use tool.  I am a Sales Executive for Shoutlet at our Madison, WI headquarters.
My previous experience is in telecommunications and I am really enjoying my new position at Shoutlet.  Besides working hard to become an expert on the Shoutlet platform, I am also really trying to learn social media marketing in general and to understand what life is like for marketers in this space.
I welcome any and all informational conversations and hope to learn a lot from everyone in this club!

  • Hi everyone,My business is educational consulting, and for me that means helping students and their families with the college application process. The focus is on the fit: help a student find a college that meshes with his/her personality as well as academics and that student will thrive. My business is brand new and I’m also new to the field. But I do have my M.Ed in Educational Psychology/Secondary School Counseling and I’m close to completing coursework in UCLA’s distance learning certificate program in college counseling. I’m looking to learn more about how I can really maximize social media in my marketing to help me convey my expertise, since I can’t rely on an extensive background in teaching or admissions.

  • Hey everyone… and thanks, Michael, for setting this up.

In 1996 I created my first business, which has morphed into Marquee Incentives (http://marqueeincentives.com).  Marquee Incentives helps small to medium sized regional, national and international businesses to increase engagement, sales, profits and cash flow using business improvement tools such as incentive, recognition and loyalty plans.

This year I added Marquee Marketing (http://marqueemarketing.biz) which helps small to medium sized local and regional businesses to increase engagement and sales using local, mobile, social, video and online marketing; special events; online reputation management and incentive plans.

In addition to looking for new clients, we are also looking for independent sales people and strategic partners to sell our huge product line-up.  We also happily pay for referrals.  So if you can help us please email me at cwain [at] marqueemarketing [dot] biz.

My name is Peter, I’m from Switzerland, but work as Interaction Designer in Taipei at a small start-up company.

I’m pretty new to Social Media for Small Biz. Just trying to understand the basics, and see how I can help the company get the word out. (We have no marketing person employed and I’m kind of ended up taking care of the business’ online profile pages for now…)

  • Good morning everyone!

I’m a solopreneur based just outside of Chicago and owner of WriteBrain Media. I take a “Hollywood production approach” to every project, building a unique team based on the needs of the client, so I’m always interested in networking and discovering new talent for my outsourced teams. I started out as a TV writer/producer and went into advertising/marketing/PR/video/multimedia production after that. I am married to #1 Star Wars Artist Dave Dorman and exhibit yearly at the huge pop culture phenom, San Diego Comic-Con

I handle my husband’s marketing/social media, as well as marketing/social media for a large medical practice, a gift card company and another high-profile artist, Dave DeVries of The Monster Machine. In my career I’ve done marketing and PR for clients ranging from publishers and NY Times bestselling authors to financial services, manufacturing, logistics, and mobile technology.

We’re about to go into production next week for a webcast that will likely reside on Discovery Science’s website, an offshoot of our podcast, “It’s Comic Book Day.” I am hopeful that turns into a success…Fingers crossed! We’re also building mobile apps at the moment, and that’s been a really fun process. I am an open networker here and on LinkedIn, so please feel free to reach out.

  • In 1979 we started a telecommunications company in Tucson AZ selling telephone systems, servicing telephone equipment and providing cabling for small and medium sized businesses. Our business was built through telemarketing and word of mouth. In 2008 we began offering social media services to local businesses. I currently provide consulting and manage several Facebook pages and Twitter accounts. My plan is to transition out of our telecom business and provide social media services full time. I understand how difficult it is to grow a business and sustain it, particularly over the last three years. Tucson and the state of Arizona was overly impacted during this last economic downturn. The good news is our doors are still open. Looking forward to participating in the forums and getting to know all of you. Social Media Examiner has always been a quality resource for me.

  • Greetings from the Midwest!  I am the owner/founder of my own marketing company called Creative Marketing Innovations, LLC.  For 9 years I was the marketing director of a very successful small rural hospital but started to get very restless.  I wanted to just “do marketing”.  Six months later, here I am with my own company and a contact with the same hospital.  My husband and I are also in the Imprinting Promotions business – a great complement to my business!  The greatest part of my job is being the host of the hospital’s weekly live radio show!!  Love being on the radio and even have a graduation certificate from The Radio Garage University!

I have a 20 year old daughter, 3 step-children, volunteer at the Animal Rescue League, love to read, work-out, and make jewelry!

My biggest challenge is getting MYSELF marketed!  I can do it for everyone else, but when it comes to self-promotion, there is never enough time!

  • Hi everyone!I’m excited to be part of this wonderful community, to learn and share :D I have a Master’s in Computer Information Systems and had been programming for many years from MS Access to VB to SQL/Oracle and Cold Fusion and ASP for the web.  I also enjoyed teaching / training instructor on MS Office and graphic programs like Photoshop and Illustrator.  Then I began my family, Michaela is 5, Luke is 2, and changed my focus to blogging and to help people learn “how to” do things on their blogs, to help design and setup their blogs as well. Blogs by Heather (www.BlogsByHeather.com) was formed.

I was then approached by Apress to write a book on Blogger, Beginning Google Blogger (Jul 2010) and then another one published this year (Apr 2011), Creative Blogging.  I really enjoy writing, so I hope to write another one in 2012.

If blogging, and raising my kids aren’t keeping me busy enough (LOL), I have 3 dogs, a bunch of parakeets, and a dear husband to put up with us all (LOL).  I also enjoy card making and stamping, and become a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator in 2006 as a creative outlet and to have fun with friends and family while creating handmade projects (www.HandStampedByHeather.com).

So that’s me in a nutshell – Mother, Wife, Blogger, Papercrafter – who also loves the beach, and has a wonderful, supportive, loving family :D

  • Hi all,

I’m a newish small business owner, having opened my doors just this last summer.  My company website is at:  http://www.creeksidecs.com

Our goal is to help companies find their presence online by helping them develop websites and branding that can be carried through to their social media.  I’ve worked on and developed a few social media strategies for small to medium sized businesses in my area.

A lot of businesses are very interested in social media but really struggling with how to implement it.  I love helping people and figuring out technology so this has been a great fit for me!

Look forward to meeting all of you and helping/learning any way I can.

I incorporated a few years and have been teaching out of a community center with the goal of having my own school. I’ve been alerted to the value of social media through my sister who is in the marketing field and have been on a crash course in the past month or so. I’m looking forward to learning from you!

  • Hi everyone -
I’m Nan, owner of Silver Magpies.  I’m an antiques dealer specializing in silver for the table and bar. It’s one of those inch wide- mile deep niches. I’ve been in business locally for several years, but last month marked the 1st anniversary of taking Silver Magpies online.
What a year it has been… The learning curve of web design/management/SEO/blogging etc, etc has been immense. Then, I discovered social media and all the challenges it presents. :)
2012 is my year to make my presence on Facebook a significant asset to Silver Magpies.

I do have LinkedIn, Google +, YouTube, and an FB profile…but I’m only a 1 person operation so my social media efforts are my FB page and Twitter.

I really look forward to connecting with other small business owners and figuring out how everyone copes with the challenges of owning, managing and growing a small business in the new economy.

All the best in 2012 and happy holidays,Nan

As a big believer in learning communities, I’m excited to be taking part in the clubs.
I am a small business owner, operating ConverStations (coaching other small businesses in their use of social media) since 2006. Most recently, I’ve launched Dialing 8, a membership site which allows us to extend our coaching and our conversation.
I’ve also either owned or operated a boutique shoe store, a self-storage facility, a property management company, and a courier service.

  • Hi everyone,

I am a small business owner in many forms, I currently own a brick and mortar ice cream store and started using social media for that business back in early 2009 and as my love for social media (especially Facebook) and what it can do for small businesses grew I soon became the ‘go to social media’ person in our town, my passion for social media and what it can do to help small businesses grow is unmistakable . .  Well needless to say the more I helped other local companies understand the where and how of going social I began offering social media consulting/managing/marketing services t and now have that as my 2nd small business. http://We are in the process of selling that store and relocating to Belize in the March of 2012. Once we relocate I will continue to do the social media management services

You can connect with me at the following placesFacebook The Social GardenTwitter MySocialGardenGoogle + The Social Garden
