info graphic problem (7 posts)

  • fyi….many of the infographics i  bump into  are way too little to  see…and i  want to judge  at a glance if i  want  to dig  deeper ….  this is  especiaally  true on  the  regular size pinterest….and  i  noticed  the  same  problem  on  the  front page of a  social  info  blog this morning…..  i wear  glasses  but    can see  fine….

  • @annfurnivall

What would you recommend? Just using part of the image as the thumbnail? (This is how Threadless does/did it, and I loved the approach.) However, not every platform would adhere to that.

    Suggestions? (Besides a bigger monitor.)

  • not sure,  maybe make the  graphic more  suitable… for the site  its on.. … keeping in  mind how  it  will look to the users..maybe the  main  first  view   it  could be a wlhole lot  bigger, with a whole lot less on  it…….and  you  could  click on parts  to  see  more….

when  you design a billboard  the  popular  idea is  you  shouldnt   have more than about  10  words…. its kind of a  reality….thats about all people  can   absorb  ……. sure  you  could  put  20  words on  but  it wouldnt  be  smart…you have to fit the  people  you  cant  make  them  slow  down and  get  your  message  better…

  • The majority of the infographics I see link to a larger image version where you can see everything.

Do you not see this or are the larger versions still to hard to read?

  • mostly i was  talking about the ones ive  been seeing….lots and lots of   info in a  tiny  space..

.maybe  i could have linked it  to  be  bigger…..i didnt  try…….but i was  just  cruising  by..and   couldnt see  enough to get interested….

    .

  • Next time you see one try clicking on the image or looking for a additional link above and below it ;)

  • im on a nice 15 or  16 inch laptop, not a phone….

what im  trying to say is that its so  hard to  read  that i  dont   get interested…maybe   i  could   look  deeper  but  why  would i?    im  talking  casual, where im just passing  thru, like checking out someones  pinterest or  blog  and there is an  infographic…. its  no  big  deal to me to see it….but if it showed  me  something tempting  i might    take a look……i thought  the  whole idea was to show an idea  in  the one picture….guess thats  wrong…

…. i  remember in a 6th grade  textbook, seeing    the  whole idea of the  worlds  water c ycle…  evaporation going up and  rain  coming  down  shown in one  small simple picture with some  arrows….. information in a  clear  one look  way…..it  was  neat…and  said  a  lot……
