I’m having trouble with Dropbox (10 posts)

Topic tags: dropbox
  • I have photos I put out there from my iMAC and they haven’t synced with online or my PC.  Some have been out there for days/weeks.  I put one out today and it still hasn’t synced (510kb).  So is there a magic formula I don’t know.  Has anyone else had this issue?

  • Hi Trudy ( @trudyd1474 )

I used Dropbox for awhile but it really did not meet my needs for my client base. There were too many anomalies and training clients to use a new service became more than it was worth.  We work largely by email and that serves our purpose so we dropped Dropbox altogether. There were other reasons too, but mainly, we found we just did not need it, after all.

  • @trudyd1474 Never had any problem with Dropbox sync – I use it with iMac, MacBook, iPad, iPhone and WinPC. Syncs within secs and even handles documents being opened in multiple devices at the same time.

However, it is important (especially with a PC install) to check your sync preferences. You can select and deselect folders to be synced or not, maybe there is your problem?

If not, go check your account in the cloud directly on Dropbox.com. There’s an extensive setting area, and the cloud is your main account.

Last but not least it might be a problem with your iCloud settings, if you have an account there. Sometimes iCloud blocks other services from syncing the same files. Try hiding the pics folder from iCloud sync and look what Dropbox does.

    All the best, Thomas

  • @trudyd1474 I’ve used Dropbox for quite a long while and this happened to me once – try opening your Dropbox preferences on your Mac, and logging out, then back in. That should sync what you have! Or, right-click the folder while in a Finder window, and click on “Browse on Dropbox Website”, see if that updates it!

  • Thanks for the comments but I’m still confused and am beginning to hate dropbox. @gabriellamireles  Well, my MAC isn’t talking to online dropbox which means the files aren’t showing up on the PC either.  I’m not sure what you mean by preference.  I can’t find preferences on the online Dropbox.  I don’t get the “Browse in Dropbox Website” When right clicking.   @ecumenix I don’t know how to do any of the recommendations you listed.  I don’t know how to change iCould settings…..I do have iCloud.  The only setting I found in Dropbox doesn’t say anything about files. I can’t find sync preferences.  I’m more confused than ever and really don’t like this dropbox if it’s this difficult to manage.  I’m sorry to be so negative.

  • @trudyd1474 Hmm sorry it’s giving you so much trouble! Have you checked the Dropbox help center?

  • Hi Trudy – @turdyd1474

Exactly why I dropped Dropbox. I don’t have time to dink with stuff that doesn’t work right, right “out of the box.”  If one of my associates can’t get it either (those more savvy than I) I move on to something that works better.

Time is money and many online endeavors are simply not worth the time it takes to work out the bugs that can happen with individual settings and such. IMHO.

  • I unlinked the MAC from online Dropbox.  Reinstalled the MAC.  Now Dropbox doesn’t ever recognize the MAC.  I put a topic in the Dropbox Forum.  We’ll see if that helps.

  • how is it going with dropbox? Trudy. @trudyd1474

  • Not well.  I put a message in the Forum and got one response asking if I was logged into the right account.  Well I only have one account so how could it be the wrong account.  No help there.   @deairby Thanks for asking.
