I need marketing ideas for a fine artist! (12 posts)

  • I’ve got the general social media chops down but need some suggestions specifically for a fine artist auction website. He does paintings and will be auctioning off a painting a week. He wants to build his email list with social media quickly. Help!!!

  • One idea: piggyback off a renowned site or celebrity who may be interested in endorsing this artist? (even if for a fee)
That way, with a “please RT” message, or contest on a popular Facebook site, it can generate lots of leads in a short period of time.

Maybe try giving away one of his paintings.  You can go crazy on targeting with Facebook ads and really focus in on people that would actually purchase his art and are not just interested in freebies.

Make sure that you set up an easy landing page to get enough information that people won’t mind filling it out.

  • Wow! Thanks! These are great!!!

  • @amyhallbiz  Anytime!  Let me know if you need help with targeting, I’d be glad to help.

I always love when people want to build a list “fast!”

Social media can be fast on occasion, but it often doesn’t work that way. Ditto w/SEO.

My experience is that things worth doing take time.

That being said, if you want to get first page results or make sure you get in front of your targeted audience, then you need to invest in advertising: PPC, banner ads on appropriate sites, FB ads, etc.

  • @rich-brooks  You are correct about “patience is a virtue” when it comes to online marketing… but once it kicks into gear, it’s fast and furious all the way!

We’re looking at blogging with pictures hosted on twit pics and picasa and video blogging. I also thought about JV’ing with wineries. They would have a similar target market and wouldn’t feel threatened by endorsing a similar product.

It’s just so much fun to come up with all these strategies!!!

  • Remember social media is about building relationships NOT pushing sales. Also, even though not social media, website should be designed to convert visitors to leads and sales. For starters home page should include unique selling proposition and value to consumers. There should be cal-to-action buttons on each screen moving people to the goal (sign-up and sales). Then you want a way to help stay connected. Social media can be part of it.

Also, gettting a large list of perspective buyers isn’t very helpful if those people are not his target market. He should not get involved in motivating people to friend him on FB. That means no raffles etc. Research has shown that such efforts are not long lasting and if people are not interested in his work, they will come for raffle and leave.

  • Maybe this person could find some places that could use his art (upcoming events or major businesses that need to fill space on the walls). Maybe they would even take a percentage of sales, but if that helps get more viewers/potential buyers then well worth it.

  • @karenolenick  I don’t really understand your point. Perspective buyers are people who have put up their hands and said they want to purchase. They may or may not be in his target market. Target market may include perspective buyers, but they haven’t put their hands up to say they want to purchase. I think it’s more important to have a list of perspective buyers than a target market list. Have a target market list would funnel down to perspective buyer list.
    What am I missing?

  • Let’s say he gets people to be fans on Facebook because he was giving something away or having a raffle for those who became a fan. But if that is the incentive used then those people are likely to just be going to Facebook for the prize. What you want to do instead is to generate interest and engagement on Facebook and have people be there because they are truly interested.

    Hope that helps.
