  • Hi,well, I know the basics of how linkedin works, I have an account and everything but my boss wants to understand how it works… he is only familiar with facebook, so he wants to now how can he measure success in linkedin, or what is linkedin good for… I personally don’t find linkedin useful, not in my area at least so I don’t know how to answer him… I only know that linkedin is good for professionals and for people who is looking for a job or is looking to hire someone….
But if you have a business, what is linkedin good for? how do you measure your ‘success’? by the amount of connections?
can you recommend me maybe some links to good articles about linkedin? there is so much information about this that I don’t know how to start…

  • @hytare That’s a good question! For personal accounts, connections are not necessarily a good indicator because some prefer a lot and some a little. Now for company pages, you would want a lot of followers. That means people are interested in your news feed.

Another way to analyze engagement is the links you share in your personal news feed, company news feed and post to groups. Google Analytics has provided me some feedback and you can create customized tracking links of your own.

    That’s my limited 2 cents.

I did find this neat article for you: http://linkedintobusiness.com/roi-and-measuring-your-linkedin-presence/

    Good luck!

  • @kc_kreative thank you!the article was just what I was looking for, thanks!

  • Hi Pamela,

Linkedin has 200 million members. One million new members are joining each week that are most likely business professionals. It is the best site for B2B in most cases, of course it depends on what type of business you have. Linkedin is not an option for the business professionals, companies or brands. It is well worth your while to invest your time. As I mentioned earlier there are 1 million business people joining Linkedin every week.

There is no easy way to master Linkedin. I would say that to fully understand Linkedin you have to watch 5-20 webinars and read 25-75 articles about it. The next step is to join groups and listen to what people are talking about. I am a Linkedin  group manager and my group is now a business opportunity marketing machine for me. I get leads from all over the world.

Linkedin is my favorite site for my business. No Tweens, Few teenagers, not a lot of retired people.

As far as your boss goes, I would copy and paste many of the “Titles” of articles that can be found right here and on other sites and tell him that not being on Linkedin is like not being on email.

If you like Pamela you can get him to call me and I will explain to him the pros and cons depending on his business.

  • I have recently started my social media marketing company and am struggling with how to really get started and build a follower base with LinkedIn. So I would love to hear others tips and tricks!

  • @inteammarketing Starting putting your content on LinkedIn (it will show up in your connections’ news feeds); respond and post in your groups (you can join 50 main groups and relatively unlimited sub-groups). You can also update your profile on a regular basis with offline activities (presentations, seminars, etc.). I believe the article I found should have some additional tips as well.

    Good luck!
