I need a free WP theme / template recommendation for an affiliate site (12 posts)

  • I have a simple affiliate site I must create on Wordpress using a free theme on a hosted domain, I think on Hostgator. So this is NOT on WP’s free subdomain hosting. This is the client’s own domain.

It must be free for now. Should be easy to place box ads on it in an attractive, yet tasteful way. 2 or 3 columns with box ads preferably on right. Streamlined, uncluttered, not flashy, business professional style.

Any recommendations? Tips? What free ones have you used that would be good for this?

  • @atlantarobin I am going thru the same process and found tthat there are a ton of places you can go to get free WP themes but at what cost…yes even “Free” is no longer free on some web sites. There are a few sites that I have downloaded some free templates from; I’m still trying to finesse them to my business, try these sites:

Good luck, I know it can be a daunting task to find the right theme.

Mike, thanks so much for sharing those links with me. Very helpful. Are you also looking for an affiliate type site or for something else?

  • The Affilotheme is the best Wordpress theme that is tailor-made for affiliate marketing. Easy to use and customize to my needs.

Twenty Ten is a great Wordpress theme too. It’s fully customizable (6 widgetized areas, custom headers, background, and menu) and free. :)

    And some more:

Daunting is right, Mike. The first link had that catch-22 “you can use these for personal use, but not commercially on the web.”

The second had a few nice ones that would work for me, but not exactly what I need. I couldn’t find any limitation of use on those. Haven’t gone to the third yet.

After those first two, I went back to Wordpress, thinking well maybe I could just use one I remembered from last summer, but what has happened to their theme directory? It’s practically useless, unless you know something by name.

Didn’t they use to have little thumbnails you could scroll through, page by page? I remember thinking that was a pain in the but, but now all they give you is a search box! OMG, I just want to scan through  thumbnails. What happened? Is there anywhere else I can go to see that in thumbnail view, vs their zero view now?

    rocks my world

free, has a tonne of options and customisations, and is easy to use once your get a handle of it.

  • @atlantarobin Hi Robin. I would recommend you the copyblogger theme, for the following reasons.

    http://demo.studiopress.com/copyblogger/

It has clean & neat look and fulfils your design requirements.

It is very useful for search engine optimisation & fully customisable according to your requirements.

I also use this theme for one of my customer.

  • @ayaz1

Muhammad, I like copyblogger a lot, but it’s on Genesis frameworks. Isn’t that a paid theme, I’m crossing fingers for something free.

  • @dextereugenioDexter,

Suffusion is simple, yet amazing. I got sidetracked for an hour watching documentaries on one of its showcase examples. Glad to know it supports video and so beautifully, too.

I was also glad to see someone tested it on so many different platforms, making sure it doesn’t break apart, though they said rounded corners do disappear. I didn’t see if it holds its own on mobile platforms. Do you know?

And what about loading speeds? Any problems for you there? Do you integrate video on your sites with it? Any problems?

  • @seancookceo-salyrisstudios

Sean, don’t uou have to pay almost $500 to get the AffilioJetPack to use the Affilio theme? Looks great, but pricey for my pocketbook.

Twenty ten looks good. I’ll check out the others you recommended now, too. Thanks.

  • @atlantarobin My bad, yes and this one also charges: http://www.affiliatetheme.net
Have you found a good free affiliate WP theme yet?

  • @atlantarobin Yap it is a paid theme but I think if you had to spend $60 to get an amazing Framework its worthless, which gives you the following benefits;
    1. The best Search Engine Optimisation themes & easily customizable according to your requirements.
    2. These themes are neat & cleanly presented & also got each design to suits your requirements & these are also used by top bloggers such as,

    • Problogger.net
    • Chrisbrogan.com
    • Copyblogger.com
I am using this framework for my customer’s to customized chosen themes according their requirements and they are happily using them with ease.
