  • Thank you for supplying this insightful article! Have you made any changes to your social media platforms after reading this? @kimkline

  • @springboardpc Kristina, my biggest change has actually been in myself!  My expectations have become somewhat different.  I am more interested in building connections and trust than in the hard sell.

Of course I still want to promote my company, but the WAY in which I am doing that has changed.

    Nicely put, Kim!

  • @russellallert  Thank you Russell!

  • @kimkline Thanks for the article :)

  • i think  this is  really interesting problem/hurdle……..as a  service  provider  you  could  really   give  great help  to a  clients    faceboook page   but your  page   is  so low in followers…..  so you would  look   kind of weak  to  the  client   you were trying to   get to hire you..they might think  how  can  you help my page when  yours is so low?….. ..if  you  talk about   followers  dont  count   that wouldnt ring true..you  cant   say im  going to  do a great  job for you  but it wont show in likes……  so  how  do you   get over this?

i see and admire  some  gurus  out there  who  dont even   go for a  facebook page themselves…..  imho , its not a natural  fit….if  you are trying to serve small businesses  they probably  dont want to   talk about their    goals and problems  on an open  place like a facebook page….. but  i guess you  can  still be a good  go to page for them and  be useful   ….

hopefully  your  actual work isnt  boring..even  tho it  might not lend itself  to   a  big  fun   facebook page……  ..hate to mention it  but mine on  monday     got   more  response   than i have  fans!!!  and no  promo….  it was on   the picture of people  at  the yardsale …… around  3400  reach   and  3200   fans….

  • @annfurnivall  Glad your weekend (and Monday!) went well.  For me, Facebook is not my main focus.  I get more professional referrals on LinkedIn, etc.  However, I like to keep a Facebook presence, especially now that I have also started a blog!

And, no, I actually do NOT find my business boring (I really see something new almost every day! lol), but it is not a VISUAL type of business (which particularly lends itself to Facebook and Pinterest).

What I tend to like about Facebook is its “casualness” and being able to do things on a little more personal level.

  • Great article for all businesses, not just ‘boring’ ones.  I especially like point #2 – Socialize means Socialize

    Thanks for sharing  @kimkline !

  • @melissaholmes  Thanks Melissa!  I also found a lot of the tips helpful, and interesting.  While some may really be common sense, I appreciate them any way!

  • One mistake we made early on in social media was trying to stick to just our business topics and services. We’ve learned to branch out and share articles from other people, relevant quotes, funny related pictures and things like that. Anything that might resonate or help our audience. It’s made a huge difference in engagement.

  • @kellyphillipsnc  I love your thoughts and have to agree totally!  I have started to do this myself, and I find that it both makes my page more interesting and gets visitors to check out some of my other posts….and isn’t that our goal?!
