Hi All,

Just wondering what software, companies like Hubspot and Radian6 use to create those graphical, visually appealing ebooks they distribute. Is it done in a specific app then converted to PDF?

Typically they are first crafted in Microsoft Word by a writer.  Then the docs go off to a designer that likely uses InDesign (Adobe) to create a visually appealing ebook.  Then they just save it as a PDF.

Adobe InDesign used in conjunction with a training tool like Lynda.com is a resource worth investing in if you want to create remarkable content that looks as good as it reads. You can also purchase templates to design into for $10-$20 from a multitude of designers. Just a thought

@deairby You could also hire a graphic designer to design the layout for your Ebook based specifically on its content and purpose. And as @mike-stelzner and @jeremyknight have already mentioned InDesign is pretty much the standard tool of the trade for creating digital layouts in PDF and/or Print formats. And the basics of using InDesign can be picked up pretty easily if you choose to invest in the software. I also recommend checking out Adobe TV for great application specific tutorials.
