How much would you pay for a FB Cover picture? (16 posts)

  • I just have to ask … a few weeks ago I noticed an ad on FaceBook for a company that used to offer FB tabs and is now offering the new cover pictures. The cost was a limited time $99! … is this an outrageous price, or is it just me? Witht he restrictions on the cover pic, I also wondered how many people would feel the need to have a professional design their cover pic? And, how much woudl you expect to pay?
    Thanks!

  • @roguecitrus – It depends…not sure how much I’d pay, but you also have to factor in the graphic designer’s time.  They have to take time to get a feel for what you want, maybe they’d have to do some do-overs if you didn’t like it … personally I think $99 (round to $100) isn’t that bad, if you find a good person/company that does a great job.  Also, if it’s good quality, and drives “fans” what would you pay for that….?

  • @devanianjal, good points. I think I presumed that anyone who needs a really specific one would have an in-house design team and there would be some kind of canned solution from a company offering it to crank them out. (Maybe I shouldn’t have presumed …)

  • @roguecitrus

Many small businesses don’t have the resources for an inhouse design staff, but they still want top notch design.

$99 is a lot if you’ve already got good images and can do some simple cropping.

$99 is a great investment if someone is going to find/create an engaging image that will help you attract new fans. Imagine if you had that photo up for six months before swapping it out. Now you’re looking at an investment of about $0.39/day.

Now that’s a darn good deal!

  • Any product is worth $99 if there are people who will buy it. I just read on another thread about email marketing management selling for 5k. Now that to me is crazy! But if there is someone in the market for that, then it is the right price. Also to whom are we selling? Yeah, i think if there was some original vector work and not just photo manipulation, $99 is a pretty decent deal. Also, are the designers, or just people who know how to use Coral or photoshop?

  • It’s just like any other design, some are willing to pay a lot and some want something cheap. My reg price is $99, but then I do sales for $55 …you know everyone likes a sale :) But in my research I have seen them as low as $15 and as high as $299.

For anyone looking, just be sure you check out that company’s samples. That will give you an idea of what kind of image you will get.

  • @rich-brooks – you mention ‘simple cropping’ – I’m having the hardest time getting a pix to fit. My designer created it with the correct dimensions 851 x 351 pixels and it shows up gigantic. I’ve tried cropping after she sent it to me – it doesn’t change at all. I’m wondering if when it goes live it will re-size?  Any insight?
(sorry to change the focus of this thread)

  • @pchiappa

    It’s actually 851 x 315 (not 351). Try that, unless it was a typo.

That’s the actual size, so it should work.

  • I have a very successful business and I’m very careful what i spend my money on to advertise, for promotion, etc. I actually make my own FB cover photo, I like taking photos of my products, products at our events and just use them. They come out great and people get to see the reality of my company

  • @rich-brooks

it was a typo – still working on it…

    thanks for your response Rich

  • $99 IS a good deal if photoshop manipulation and/or graphic work done — figure you’d pay $65-85 an hour for that? If simply resizing a pic – skip the cost and diy…

  • @pchiappa my guess is you were given a file at 300dpi, even with a dimension of 851×315 depending on what you opened the file with, it could look huge.

@roguecitrus Regarding the original topic … when I created the cover for my business page it took me nearly three hours to complete. I went through a few versions before I settled on what I have now, and I’m the type of designer who has to have every pixel just right. I too charge $99, but I have clients I do white label design for and only charge them $75.

Something else to consider … if a designer is good, and can crank out a quality design really fast that doesn’t mean they should be paid less. How many years of experience does that designer have, how much did they pay for education in order to learn those skills. Someone who becomes more efficient and decreases the amount of time it takes them to do certain jobs has just give themselves a raise without raising prices to their clients. ;-)

Now, if you’re talking about someone grabbing a stock photo and just slapping it up with the correct dimensions, then yes, $99 is too much to pay, but then again, anyone can slap a photo up, so why would they feel the need to pay someone else.

    … Scott

  • @pchiappa If you still havn’t solved this, PM me, send me the image, and I will crop it for you, no charge. No hidden agenda. Just a SME club perk.

  • $50 – $100 is fair, but ask for examples first.  All designers have their own “level of quality” and “style”

  • the original question was how much would you pay for a FB cover pix – but I kind of side-tracked it with my problem loading my pix.

Well, to the rescue comes great guy Jason Wiser @jasonwiser who offered me his help, (at no charge!) and as a man of his word, solved my problem and gave me a Facebook cover pix for FREE!

Not only is he an honorable and obviously a really nice guy – he did it within minutes of his offer!

    Thanks Jason!!

  • @pchiappa no problem. Glad it helped.
