How much time each day should I spend on Pinterest? (6 posts)

  • I decided to try and decipher Pinterest on my new marketing project b/c I hadn’t been able to figure it out before.

I know there are a lot of Pinterest experts out there in the forums, so I was wondering how much time you spend each day on Pinterest, and what you spend your time doing?

    Thanks!

  • i spend about  15 minutes a day on it…i post  about half   in totally business related  things…pictures of   the  things our store stocks and is passionate about….things we are known for, things   we hope for in  using our  products, the  trends we are in,  and  especially  design [rooms, store displays, garden ideas,furniture]..i try to put a lot of pictures of ours on  with links to our website…..it fits my   customers like a glove….they use it  , they love it,  they  bring  pictures of projects  from   it  to my store to buy  the parts  for their projects…a few times a week i hear   from  customers that they follow me…. i  think i have  about  3500  followers…

its all about the pictures…we dont  talk to each other on there….but it tells me a lot when one picture  gets  20 repins…thats  good info  for our store……..

plots i havent  tried  are about  getting in the same stream   as  the leaders in my field…. it kind of happens  naturally  but i havent put much effort  into it…

the other half is all about me and what i like and my   outlook on the world,  there is  some  relationship  there to the store too….

    heres my page  http://www.pinterest.com/annatgreenoak

my  experience  probably  doesnt  relate  much to  your social media business  …but  hopefully helpful to you  if  you  ever have clients like me out in the  real world…

the  best social media person i have seen on pinterest  used to be on here…she  did  something with lunchbags…????? she seemed  to have  a  good  following..

  • @rich-brooks I spend a scant amount of time on my association’s Pinterest page – it’s more of a cool archive spot. I spend maybe 15 min/mo. on my personal one. The main reason? I’d get sucked into looking at all the images!

  • Hi @rich-brooks —

I have not really gotten into the ‘monetization’ aspects of Pinterest. If I had more personnel and/or a bigger biz all around I would spend the time to figure it out.
There are a lot of help pages at Pinterest for this very thing.  However, last year SME had a nice article too —

6 Tips for Using Pinterest for Business

  • Oops!  I did not even answer the question – when I go there, I spend too much time.  But to get to know the ins and outs I’d say spend a good half hour to full hour studying what others are doing each day.  In a week or two you’ll know a whole lot more than you know now.:D

  • Like with most new networks that come up, I created an account simply to learn about it to educate my clients…well, little did I know this one sucked me right in!

It is a powerful tool when used correctly. I advise clients to add photos that lead back to their web site and to include product details and pricing when appropriate to facilitate sales.

I’ve found that great photos accompanied with a clever story in the description have a greater click-through rate.
