I have been reading a lot of articles about PInterest and several of them have mentioned running a contest to acquire followers. One I recently read (link: http://www.linkedin.com/news?viewArticle=&articleID=5580596831491981353&gid=68961&type=member&item=98071008&articleURL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.douglaslim.org%2Fpinterest-101%2F&urlhash=MwPZ&goback=.gde_68961_member_98071008) says “Run a contest on Pinterest and invite people to pin images that inspire or motivate them. Then judge the best pin and offer a prize.” What I don’t understand is if it means people pin images on their own boards or yours, and if its theirs, how do you know what they’ve pinned, and if its yours, how can they do that without a login? Am I not getting something here? I’m just not sure how this would work and would appreciate if someone understands how this works and can explain it. It seems like a great idea.
Do we have any Pinterest experts in the group that can help Diane out here? (Goodness knows I’m not one.)
I did a contest Monday called Pin It to Win It! I made an image that was linked to my page with a promotion on it. Anyone who repinned it and commented was eligible to win. On Wednesday I chose a winner at random. It was really successful. The traffic on my page was amazing for the 2 days I held the contest.
what an awesome idea! thanks for sharing, Tony @tonytaylor
I’ve started a contest today which is running via my facebook group where we are branding and promoting our business using the “How to”. You are free to do videos, upload picture instructions or blog instructions and this will be shared and pinned around my the group members. Anybody interested in taking part, pls inbox me.
@dianebianchi, what I read some place is to tell your clients to pin in their own boards a picture using your product o showing your product, and ask them to tag you on the picture (don’t know how to tag on Pinterest), so you will know that there is a picture for you and you can repin it to your contest board.
@tonytaylor and @hildaalanisgonzalez Thanks for the ideas. I will try them out.
this isn’t exactly a contest – but I created a board called “Guest Pinner Gallery” where my clients can pin something related to their retirement fun.
I just read about this and haven’t tried it – I’m new to Pinterest so I have to work out the details.
Thanks so much Tony…will have to try it!
Thanks everyone for responses (even if I didn’t ask…lol)…love this place, members actually answer questions, unlike so many other places.
