How do you drive traffic to your business? Paid Ads, PPC, Facebook? (11 posts)

  • I am looking for cost effective ways to get traffic to my blog and looking for ideas preferably with proven results.

    Thanks.

  • @bnsmav

As far as proven results go, it will probably depend on industry. What type of blog/business do you have?

Most of our traffic comes through search engines, so I spend a lot of energy on optimizing my site and blog for SEO, understanding what words my ideal customers are most likely to Google and working those into my title tags, body copy, etc.

I supplement this by using social media platforms to drive additional traffic to my blog and website.

I don’t do much w/PPC, but when done right it can drive traffic to your site for sure.

  • @bnsmav  Everything really depends on your niche, target market and strategy. There is no one size fits all answer to your question.  With that in mind I pretty much agree with Rich.  Long term on site and off site SEO strategies are best.  These emphasize your Web site as your hub and use of what ever effective (where your customers hang out) social media platforms as the tools to attract qualified visitors works best.  It’s trial and error to test what is the best platform for you.  Then strive to become a dominant player within it.

  • @bnsmav Great question!  Since I am fairly new to the whole Social Media process, I am interested in the advice you get also.  I would have to agree that the type of business you have would greatly determine what methods you use.  However, it would seem that doing search engine optimization would benefit many.  Since my company is “business to business” more than individual customer driven, I have been using Linkedin to join groups of interest and have developed my Facebook page.  Being considered knowledgeable in my industry and up on current events that pertain to my industry is key for me (my company provides background check services).  So good luck to you and I hope you find success!

  • In my opinion, will be good to make a Facebook page, promoting your blog, and invite your friends. They can invite their friends, and in this way your audience can increase. Also it is good to make a Twitter and Google+ profile.Social media is a very strong instrument for promotion and it is worth trying it. Also you can write in different forums, your opinions about different subjects.

I wish you good luck and success!

  • Thanks for all of the great responses.  I do have a facebook page, google plus, and twitter.  I just started learning more about SEO and the back linking this video taught me a lot. http://bit.ly/Lve75A For a newbie anyway.  There is no optin or sales on this promise.  I don’t want to be that guy. There are product plugs but that’s it.

  • I’m new to having and building a business as well and I use Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. I’m still learning about some of these. The Google+ I am not sure who that works so I don’t use it. I do have regular Google and am still trying to figure that out. I am like you Brad in that I’m learning as I go but need some help.

  • @richbrooks and @michaelyublosky, I concur.  FB & Twitter will bring traffic but tight SEO for organic traffic is the best.  Don’t forget, traffic without conversion is no fun either.  Make sure you have good compelling content.

  • Yeah, I hate when people change lanes without signalling. Especially when they’re all the way in the fast lane and they…

OH! We’re talking about WEB traffic. Heh heh. Silly me.

Seriously though, how does a new, totally awesome blog like mine (yup, it’s that awesome) get noticed in all the static? Don’t get me wrong, my site is growing. But should I expect 40 to 50 hits a day for at least, what, a few months? A year?  Am I already plateauing?

I really enjoy doing my website. I like to joke. A lot. And I believe we can all learn a lot from each other by, well, giving each other crap about our writing. It’s a great way to learn how to better communicate. Sure, my site is not for everybody. That’s okay, too. I don’t ever really push it that far, but I yam-what-I-yam!

    Anyhow, I’m rambling.

I really hope to gain a lot of insight here. Let me have it. Tell me what you think. This site is chock-full of a lot of very talented and intelligent people. I truly look forward to your feedback. What do I have to do to drive traffic to my site. Suggestion?

    Stay awesome,

    Awesome Ted

  • I don’t use any of these, here are some strategies I’ve tested with pretty good results (I’ve left out the ones with bad results). I’m writing a detailed guest post on how I use each one at the moment so I’ll post that when it goes up. These are all free traffic strategies that have worked well for my web app that I am launching.

    • Submitting my site to CSS Galleries (do it if the design is good and original)
    • Forums (free and paid)
    • Guest blogging on popular blogs (problogger, think traffic etc)
    • Emails list (my own pre-launch list and my personal list from my blog)
    • Integration directories (these are apps that my app integrates with but you could apply the same philosophy to most sites)
    • App listing sites (again I guess the non app equivalent is directories but relevant targeted ones)
    • Startup sites (if you have an interesting business these sites can send a lot of traffic)
    • Tweet adder (auto follow people and send them a DM when they reply – don’t do it with your main account)
    • Podcasting
    • Social media (posting my content mainly and interacting with others, mainly on Twitter, trying linked in groups now too)
    • Reaching out to press contacts (this will come in handy when I launch and hopefully send some traffic then).
Hope that helps. Here is a post I wrote http://thinktraffic.net/best-source-web-traffic that may be relevant, it’s a case study that talks about some of these strategies (not all of them) as well as the ones that haven’t worked that well for me too.

  • great answer, Dan how’s your traffic? Did these answers help? @thedannorris @bnsmav
