HootSuite Users – Your best tips? (12 posts)

Topic tags: HootSuite, tweet tips
  • Howdy Folks.

I have a premium HootSuite account but have not used it much.  What are your best tips for entering a months worth of tweets?  Or future scheduling in general? I have a system that works but am looking for something that might be easier to manage.

I see a new scheduler at HootSuite, but not how to use it.  Any tips on that?

    Thanks!

  • @supereb I’ve used the autoscheduler with their new Hootlet app. Still haven’t figured out how it chooses the time. One tweet was scheduled for 7pm -guess it was aimed towards the West Coast crowd. I have turned off the autoscheduler in regular Hootsuite for now as I like to select my own time for responses, etc. The service is very easy to use with the on/off button. If you’re uploading bulk tweets, say based on a new blog post, then autoschedule might be useful.

RE: entering a month’s worth of tweets — put into a spreadsheet and then upload into the scheduler. I haven’t do it tho so I can’t be more specific!

You can check your queue anytime by switching over to the scheduling tab. Don’t forget to setup some reports too! I need to update mine :)

  • Thanks Kristy @kc_kreative

I also use Buffer but feel like HootSuite must have some features I am not familiar with – I create a month’s worth of tweets for HootSuite in Notepad++ and upload those but don’t use it for much else. Looking at the analysis today and need to start utilizing some of the tools available so there are not so many apps to skip around in to get all the info I need.

Surely ONE app out there does it all?  I thought that might be HootSuite. I do like the service and being able to access more than one account at a time is a real boost.

  • @supereb Funny! I use Beffer for my work feeds :) It is so much easier to use on the fly when you find articles (I do a LOT of curation). We pay for the service so that I can have a queue bigger than 10 tweets.

I use the free version of Hootsuite since it’s just me. I know that the paid accounts are great if you have multiple users of the system and need to give different levels of access. Plus Hootsuite keeps adding more social platforms compared to the others.

What about Sprout Social? I have heard good things…I guess it depends on what you want “the app to rule them all” to do!

  • @supereb I find Hootsuite particularly useful to follow various hashtags and key words, through multiple streams on a given screen. Mind you, you don’t need a premium account for this.

Analytics are OK in Hootsuite, and you get more options when you go Pro, but I don’t find it’s the key selling proposition here. The auto-schedule is also nice since they introduced it, and I know you now can access the Google+ API if you have a brand page on that platform – unfortunately not available for personal account. Yet.

    Hope this helps. Cheers,
    Frederic

  • @prestonodenbrett Hi Preston

“It can actually send to 2,000 social media sites in one click”

No offense, but why in the world would you want to do this?

You should be individualizing your message across different networks as much as you can. And, really, you shouldn’t be on that many networks any way.

  • I am not, but is available.. you can customize – it saves you a lot of time and effort.. thus smashing your time in 1/2 or more.. did you check out the site- I had no idea that there were that many I only visit about 10 and that is enough for me.

    @russellallert

  • Hi Preston.   @prestonodenbrett

I used your name to sign up at Smash Solution.  I’ll go back and preview sometime tomorrow (past my bed-time now).  Sounds interesting.  NOT that anyone needs the 2000 social media places but if scheduling and analysis (good analysis) is there, I’m IN for a try out.

Never hurts to give something new a whirl, eh? Thanks.

    Eileen

  • Hi Russell.  @russellallert

You make a good point.  However, perhaps that only shows how powerful a network they think they are setting up. We’ll see, eh?

Free is always good.  Well, mostly.

  • Hi Frederic @fredericgonzalo

I keep forgetting some of the nuances.  Thanks for your tips.  Very helpful.

  • @supereb- oh yes it is much more then tieing in your social media… yes review each of the pictures as that will tell you about all the tools that are going to be available then watch the video – find the latest one if you can from 8/15/12- that was a good one, but I don’t see it up on the site yet… this is going to be the tool many are going to use.. heard we already have on launch over 1 million business owners that are going to be on this. If you scroll all the way to the bottom of my site you will see all the visitors world wide since last Wednesday night.. it is really amazing…
