Hitting a ”wall” (11 posts)

  • How do you get yourself out of a mood where you feel nothing  is good enough?

  • I’m not sure if you mean that something you’re doing, or attempting to do is not good enough, or if something someone else is doing for you is not good enough…I’m going to assume that you’re talking about yourself, and my advice (or what I would do) is to drop the project and do someone that inspires you and make you feel good (read a fabulous book or do a personal hobby that makes you feel great to be in your own skin), then come back to the project with fresh eyes and a light heart.Or, you can always hire someone else to do it ;)Hope this helps!

  • Start counting your blessings or make a list of all the things you can be grateful for instead of feeling discouraged or disgusted. This works best as a personal exercise but it also helps with clients or vendors you can’t fire.

  • I hit the wall in early December, so I talked to two people online that I like and respect their opinions, and they have been down the start up road so they knew what I was going through. Their responses made me understand that I’m not the only one feeling the way I was (even though I knew that, being isolated working from home it was helpful to know I wasn’t crazy), and they provided suggestions. Later that night, I talked with my husband and as usual, he was very supportive and very helpful as well. By the time I woke up the next morning, I felt renewed energy and implemented a few of things they suggested. I haven’t looked back since!

Everything is temporary, so the bad days will pass and when you have good days truly enjoy them because they don’t last forever!

  • @karenataylor @debbielynnava @melissaagnes All good tips…most of us likely do have a rough bump now and again.

  • I agree with everything said above. Also, sorry for being trite, “Don’t sweat the small stuff, and it’s all small stuff!” It sounds like you hold yourself up to a high standard which is why I detect a real professionalism about you and your work. That is wonderful, not enough people like that. Give yourself a break. Get a massage, have your nails done. Stop and smell the roses. “The sun ‘il come out tomorrow!” (ooops, there I go again, trite, trite, trite…) Also, look back over your past accomplishments.

You asked how we get out of the mood…. I pray.

  • I agree with what everyone has said here.

Self care is super important — if I’ve learned anything being in business the past three years it’s to put care for ME high on the list so that I’m available to do the things I need to do for my business, for clients, for my home, pets, etc.

Also yoga, meditation, or something like that may help you get in the “zone” where your mind can be more “still” where you feel like even though some things aren’t good enough, maybe they really ARE — at least for now.

A great book I recently read on this subject is Stillpower, by Garret Kramer (a re-print is coming out in June of this year).

Being an introvert, and a busy one at that, I sometimes get overwhelmed with everything I have to do. So much coming at me from various directions.  Then I can’t function as well as I would like. Frustration sets in.  That is when I stop and do something totally unrelated, like watch something funny on TV or the FoodChanel. Then I can start fresh and get my desk organized and move ahead.

  • @trudy I am an introvert as well, and experience the same thing so I have to make myself take a break (and I sometimes feel guilty about it, but I am working on it). When I do, I feel so much better and reenergized. I need to do that more often instead of waiting until I’m pulling my hair out.

  • @karenataylor Karen it took me a long time to figure out what was going on with me. Another stress I dumped from my life about 5 yrs ago was the pressure to always be on time or a few minutes early.  I looked around and saw many very successful people being 5 minutes or more late.   I said to my self -  I can be late, just not unreasonably late.  Best permission I ever gave myself. :)

  • @deairby Never underestimate the power of prayer. It took me awhile to get there, but I pray for understanding which gives me hope.
