Help! Remarketing Campaign Vendor is VERY Confusing! (10 posts)

  • Hello Everyone,

I’m turning to this AWESOME community for help with something that isn’t necessarily social media, but is something I’m very confused by: remarketing.

My manager and I are reviewing our metrics from our remarketing vendor, and there are a large number of problems:

    1. They are claiming that they started getting hits yesterday. And charged us. However, the code was only put onto our website today (I did it with our website vendor, and it didn’t get up till about 12:45pm eastern).

    2. Their charges seem to be inconsistent. Occasionally we’re getting 0.9 cents/impression, other times 1.3 cents/impression. Is it a peak time vs. non peak time or something similar to that? They don’t say in their bill, terms of service, or anywhere else.

    3. They are bundling in “actions” into views. Is that normal? How can we track costs if they do that?

  • my dh handles that kind of s tuff….and  the  best outcome is when he  gets a real person on the phone..

.hopefully  you have a cnotact   who  can  hear  you  and   check this out…. it  sounds  wrong for sure….

i wouldnt want to   stay with  the  company if it   is  this loose with the  charges… .

  • Hello Ann,

My manager is trying to get someone to talk to us, but the last email communication we got was “Wow, you guys are more involved then our other customers.” We’re not sure how to take that… but we’re leaning towards “buh bye!”

What type of remarketing campaign are you doing?  PPC?  It does seem odd for any type of remarketing campaign to have actions combined with views.  Are they at least separating them with some type of section or are the numbers all tossed together?  The email you received would make me have my doubts for sure.

  • @iamconsulting Hello Nichole! Our campaign was a combination of PPC, tracking with display advertisements, and special phone numbers. It was through “Reach Local.”

The only separation is by day. We will see what we’re charged for each date period. We can then use different reports to see what occurred, but without pricing information. And it seems that we’re being charged different amounts with no pattern that we can recognize.

    Hi Jason,

It’s definitely concerning that they don’t give you a proper breakdown.  I looked at their site to learn more about their reporting methods and I don’t see any information on pricing within the reports themselves.  I did notice they base pricing off of a specific set budget but there should be more details on how the budget is consumed over time.  You really can’t get a grasp on exactly what you’re paying for.   Do you have any separate analytics tracking set up so you can verify the information they provide in their reports?

I did some further research into the company itself and found they have a lot of complaints against them.  Complaints range from click fraud to misrepresentation.  Sometimes you’ll find a few complaints here and there about a business that has unhappy customers but the vast amount of complaints that I found would make me immediately reconsider any type of relationship with the company.

    Hello Nichole,

I took some time this weekend to assemble a report for my manager. I then handed it off. At this point I’m certain nothing will happen, but at least I tried!

The reasons are fairly complicated, but essentially boil down to the Bertrand paradox – even though we know that discontinuing will be better (66% chance), we’re sticking with it because it will “feel right” to do so.

I’m building a brick wall in my cubicle right now :)

    Jason

  • Jason, so sorry about this. doesn’t seem fair or right.. how’s that brick wall coming? @jasonreilly

  • Coming along great! I even painted a target on it for my head! :)
    @deairby

  • So sorry for your loss, Jason. How icky for you! I think I’d file my own complaint, regardless of what the boss does… @jasonreilly

And Nichole… how nice of you to research that indepth for Jason. I’m with you… sounds too icky to stick with. I’d bale fast.
