Help! Having Techy Drop-Down Problems! (11 posts)

  • For about the last three weeks I’ve been having a weird problem when I come to SME’s Networking Clubs. I usually sign in with Twitter, but after I changed over and am now using Chrome as my browser, it leaves a miniature of SME on my dashboard, so I just click on that to get to SME. Now, I can’t get here without doing that.

My problem is with the drop down menus on the green bar at the top don’t drop down anymore. Like right now, I can see 3 notifications, but when I put my curser there, nothing happens. If I click it, it takes me to my profile. Same thing with ”Clubs” — no drop down menu. I usually go to the members area and invite members to be friends that way. Now, I can’t get to the members area at all.

Do you have a clue what’s going on? I went camping for a week, and now that I’m back, it’s still doing the same thing. So I’m thinking it may have something to do with Chrome, but it may be something else entirely.

I’ve tried to log in some other way, but Chrome won’t let me. Can’t use Internet Explorer anymore because it crashed my whole system last month and I was without a computer for weeks after I tried to update IE. I finally got rid of that problem and am now only using Chrome.

Got a clue? Help! I haven’t been able to add friends consistently, but not sure (since I went camping) if this is a sporadic problem or it’s now a consistent one. I know I can’t get any dropdown menu to work for me today.

(I’m using Windows Vista with Chrome browser on Acer Aspire laptop).

    Help-help!

  • @atlantarobin I’m having drop down problems and I’m on IE9!

  • @atlantarobin @joanmuschampfagnani

I’m not having any issues with the drop-downs, but I have noticed other oddities. (I use Firefox-it seems to be the most dependable…)

Sporadically, on the green bar on the top, the SME Home and the Clubs buttons are on the far left, while the Profile and Notifications buttons are on the far right.

Also, when I click the links to the Networking Clubs, I see a brief set of words in big red font before the actual forums appear.

Maybe SME is just having growing pains?

I PMed Phil and he said others were having problems with the drop-down boxes, too. Said some reported it was ok with FireFox, but I’m stuck with Chrome. (I think he said he had the problem, too). He thought it may have been a Chrome problem, but since Joan’s using IE9 and having the same drop-down box problems, that can’t be it.

Yeppers, it looks like SME is having growing pains. You called it right, Warren. Can’t believe they got this far without worse happening. Pretty good track record, actually. Hopefully, this will work itself out.

Meanwhile, I can’t get to the membership list at all. If I click on the Clubs tab at the top, it takes me back to the original sign-in page. Hope they get this fixed soon. Crossing all fingers and toes….

It is a bit more laborious, but you can type “members” in the search box above the Networking Clubs and it will show you a link to the members :-)

  • I use a MAC so am using Safari.  It seems to be working fine.  You can download and use Safari on the PC.  You might want to try that.  Also, I primarily use FireFox since it is more dependable than IE.  However I have to use IE for some of the internet locations I have to work with at work.

  • @atlantarobin Thanks for the update. I have firefox, but it doesn’t work as well with my website, so I tend to stay in IE.

  • Robin, dear, so sad you are having problems and it seems others may be also having difficulties. The only thing I have noticed is that the notification drop down has alternately been on the right and the left?  @atlantarobin @michael-stelzner are you aware of this problem, Michael?

  • @atlantarobin

From our developer: “It’s possible that Chrome cached a previous version of the CSS and hasn’t refreshed it yet.Or tell them to take screenshots of the problems they’re having and also version numbers of their browser”

  • Thanks, @mike-stelzner.
