Has anyone tried Roost yet? (14 posts)

  • It is another social media management tool; however, I was also wondering about it’s analytics especially after pulling together a Twitter presentation from various tools (thanks SME for those!).

The service by Vertical Response looks to combine social media and email, just like Constant Contact.

    Here is the link: http://www.roost.com/

  • @kc_kreative Haven’t tried it but it sure looks interesting!  I’d be interested to hear from others who may have tried it.

  • Well, you got me! I signed up and created a post to check out how it works. We’ll see. @kc_kreative

  • @deairby Great. Thanks for being a guinea pig :) Look forward to hearing your thoughts on this service.

  • we will see, I created a campaign and think is went out already, not sure how to check, will let you know @kc_kreative

  • @kc_kreative  Wow! Very cool! I just made an account … we’ll see how this pans out. :)

  • There are so many competing similar tools out there. Glad you are all jumping in first…let us know how the water is!

  • @amyhallbiz I’ll be interested in your opinion because of your MailChimp expertise. Roost mentioned having an email component. Social media and email management have almost merged at this point!

  • Very interesting looking. I too have signed up. We will see. See you all in a week to hear your reports!

  • maybe I didn’t give it enough of a try, but I don’t see any unique value in this program….will not continue to use it @kc_kreative

  • @deairby Sorry to hear that. Thanks again for trying it out. I started using Buffer yesterday and love it. Now I’m not tied to my Twitter feed every 15 or so minutes. I’ll probably subscribe after a few more days of testing.

  • I’ve done Buffer, Hootsuite, Twitter feed, and now Roost. I’m liking it for the most part. I like the suggested variations – question, quote, and photo. Interested to see how the at a glance engagement feature really pans out. Is there really any value beyond what is on a closely monitored FB page notice.

I don’t like that when you do the scorecard, it auto posts to your FB page. And I am not interested in the spam tactics of the “circle”. They don’t make it clear that it will post this generic message to all 35 people that you circle on their wall. “ Jason values you as a friend and has invited you to help build his Facebook network. Jason will return the favor!” and by then it is too late.

I can see how this is a great starter style platform for someone new to the scheduled posts concept to get them pointed in the right direction. Someone who is not quite ready for Buffer or better yet Hootsuite. This can be a useful tool for certain clients. I am glad i tried it, and I will stick it out for at least a week to really give it a chance.

  • thanks for your input, Jason. I only tried it for the outgoing part and didn’t realize there was an incoming part….arghh, but I must relinquish my quest … too much sm candy @jasonwiser

  • Roost trial update. Features I like:

    1. they give you a list of suggested posts, photo, update, quote, question, link and tell you how many of each you should use. This is helpful for getting a good variety of content out there. This recipe has helped me discover what the fans of a certain client prefer over the other, for example, one client has fans who love photos, but don’t engage with questions. Another has a very active questions community but the photos don’t get many comments.
    2. I like that it takes your weeks posts and shuffles them for you. This is a time saver. I don’t know about you, but i have a hard time trying to randomize my scheduled posts.
    3. I like the simplicity of it and again confirm that this is great for beginners
    4. I like the at a glance of engagements. It tells you how many have engaged and how they engaged. For example, 8 engagements = 4 likes, 2 comments, 2 clicks
    5. I like that the roost app symbol on your FB wall is small and unobtrusive, unlike twitterfeed
    6. Once you “Post” your campaign, you can edit it, but you need to do this in calendar mode, not list. You can delete the post, or slide it on the calendar to a different date or time, and you can edit the text in the post, or change the time it will post.

    Features I don’t like:
    1. I do not like the intrusiveness of the circles
    2. I do not like that the posts are either in a long list that requires a lot of real estate and therefore bulky to try to navigate and collect data. It would be nice to see the engagement data give more useful information in a more compact space. i.e. time of post, date, engagement.

I have moved much of my scheduled poss over here from Hootsuite, and use hoot suite to monitor mentions and for other twitter stuff.

I must admit, i did not like it at first, but, it is a real time saver, and I have seen a significant increase in my insights and engagements.

Also let me add that the pages I am using Roost for have rather low number of likes. They are rather intimate communities, for now, but I hope to see an increase.

There you have it, my Roost update.
