Has anyone tried Dropmark? (18 posts)

  • I just stumbled on a new app called Dropmark.  It is unbelievable!  It is similar to Dropbox in that you can drag and drop files into it but that is where the resemblance ends.  You can drop videos, photos, etc. and you can make presentations from them right in Dropmark!  Here is a link explaining what it is (better than I can!) and within that link is a link to Dropmark’s video tutorials.  I checked it out and it works great!  http://thenextweb.com/apps/2012/02/20/dropmark-brings-dead-simple-collaboration-into-the-cloud-invites/

Thanks for sharing the link, Diane. I’m going to check it out right now.

  • @dianebianchi I have been using evernote to do much the came thing as Dropmark however, I am addicted to anything that can boost productivity. :) I’m going to start using this.

  • @laurachristianson You’re welcome.  @ptwylie  I also use Evernote but Dropmark looks like it can do more.  I’m playing around with right now to see what it will do for me, but it looks great if it does everything it says it can do.

  • @dianebianchi I set up Dropmark last night and am testing it with a client’s project. So far, so good.

  • @dianebianchi That’s the one! I saw it in an article somewhere and couldn’t remember the name because it was so close to DropBox :)

@laurachristianson I’ll be interested in your assessment as I’ll be getting a tablet in a few weeks and I’ll need something to share files back & forth.

  • @laurachristianson I’ve tried it on a few things today and it’s worked well.  @kc_kreative I’m glad I jogged your memory!

One little glitch I’m experiencing. I tried sending a link to the project to one of my team members, and it told her the link is password-protected so she couldn’t view the project. Can’t see any way to make it un-protected so she can view and open the file.

I’m now trying the “add an email” and I added my project manager’s email to the box, but there doesn’t appear to be any way to verify whether the link got sent.

At least from my end, the program appears to be missing some key elements… or I’m not seeing them. But the interface is pretty bare bones and I’ve clicked on every possible link, so if I’m seeing it, chances are, it isn’t there.

  • @laurachristianson  I haven’t tried anything like that so I can’t help you.  Maybe you can Google you question to find an answer, unless someone else here knows something I don’t know.

  • ah, yes, another bright and shiny to play with…but I can’t resist, gotta try it, (hope it is better for me than evernote) @dianebianchi

  • @dianebianchi Thanks for sharing, looks pretty interesting! Yet I feel that Dropbox and Dropmark are not that much comparable. The big plus for Dropbox is that you are able to install it to work like a harddrive. What seems to be old-fashioned turned out to be of great help for some of my clients who are not used to work with clouds and solely web-based apps. But nevertheless I’ll go check out Dropmark!

  • @deairby @ecumenix I actually still use both Dropbox and Evernote in addition to trying Dropmark.  I think they each have their different uses depending on what you want to do.

  • how do you keep it all straight? do you have a central calendar? do you have another place to keep up with where you put stuff? :) :) ;) @dianebianchi

  • @deairby  LOL!  It does get a little sometimes, but I use the different tools for different things.  I store stuff in Evernote that I pulled off the internet that I want to keep around for future reference.  Dropbox I use for files I created on my computer that I want to have access to on my iPad when I am out of town and don’t have my computer.  Dropmark looks like something I can use to collect items that I want to group for purposes of a presentation and I also had an idea of using it to keep projects I’ve done as a kind of pictorial resume.  This might sound complicated, but so far it works for me!

  • scary, but I think I followed you! I like the idea of the pictorial resume! I have clipped stuff for evernote but can’t figure out how to retrieve it…frustrated forEVERNOTE @dianebianchi

  • @deairby You can go evernote.com and log in to your account and a sort “dashboard” comes up.  On the far left is a column that says “Notebooks” on the top and down the column is listed your notebooks and tags.  You can either click on a notebook or a tag and it will list all of the notes in that notebook or tag.  Click on a particular note and it will show in the large area on the right so you can read it or edit.  When I installed Evernote I set it up to have an icon on my computer desktop where I could access it without being on the internet, which is set up the same way as the one on the website, so I can go either way.  How did you go about clipping to Evernote?  Do you have the Evernote clipper on your browser?

  • yes, I have the clipper, thanks so much for the help, I’ll see if that helps @dianebianchi

  • @deairby  You’re welcome.  Let me know if you have any more problems.
